keeping a joint account with your spouse/partner

My husband and I have a joint account. The money is direct deposited and the bills paid online. It makes it very easy to keep track that way. I did just see a show that suggested if you have a joint account, the woman especially should also keep a seperate account for herself in case the marriage ends. This way she will be able to get back on her feet with out hardship. Lots of women rely on the men for the majority of the income as they are raising the family. If anything were to happen, the woman has to provide for herself and kids then this seperate account will be a God send.

I dont see any disadvantage of it for those couples who have their joint bank account.. Coz what their saving are still for them and for their family. So i dont see any disadvantage of it.. And for me, it is more on having trust with each other and having respect! Have a nice day

well theres are disadvantages at all unless the you are suspicious about the other. having a joint account on either or survior option is always advantages and suggested. its to facilitate easy drawal of funds by either in case of necessity and time availabity by either. in case one is not in a position to move the other can go and transact.

I do have a joint account with my husband.But I also have a seperate account.I keep some money in my account too.The advantage with having a joint account is great if one of the spouse is not working.I can access his account for paying the bills etc which makes the work easier.Also useful if you want to have a credit card.But if your relationship is rocky,I would think it is good not to have joint accounts.The disadvantage being that if one spouse takes a loan on that account and then they break up for whatever reason,then there will be problems.
