Most people tend to use some form of alarm system to wake then up at a specified time, but how many peole are still using an actual alarm clock? For quite a while I tended to use the music centre which I had preset for a certain radio station, and now I usually set my mobile phone to play a tune at the allotted time. There are so many items that offer this feature nowadays that alarm clocks seem to be outdated, but they are still on sale so someone must still be buying them.

The old Grandfather Clock is a beautiful piece of furniture and a very desirable item to have, so I am not surprised that your father will not part with it. I would love such a piece myself, but I do not have the room to house it properly.

I used to set my alarm clock on my phone, but it just lulled me to sleep. So i bought an alarm clock that rings like a classroom buzzer. The same happened. I can't wake up when the alarm goes off. Good thing, though, that my work starts at 2pm. It's too hot to sleep at high noon, so I wake up sweating at 11 am. I have never been late.

by the way, the blue alarm clock image is the same as my alarm clock. I set both the phone and clock alarms without much success at getting up when they both go off.

I have no problem getting up, but I do need to be woken in the first place. I put my mobile phone in the next room, but I can still hear it clearly. My blue alarm clock may look like your's, although it is not very loud.

I still have an old fashioned alarm clock, which the alarm is really loud. It's actually my husband's, he has been using the alarm clock since he studied in university. I am using it as a clock now, without setting the alarm, because both of us are using our mobile phones alarm clock function, and also the old fashioned alarm clock is too loud.

I must admit that I always found them to be very loud as well. nevertheless, there were still people who managed to sleep through the alarm, which really amazed me.

A couple of years ago, I was still using a plastic one, but it was not in good condition and I gave it up. I had a good stainless one and gave it to my father-in-law. He likes it and uses it all the time. Now I use my mobile phone for alarm o'clock. Take care.

This is the usual thing for most people nowadays because a mobile phone can be set to play the tune that you prefer and at the volume that you choose. It is rare to find anyone actually using the original alarm clock, but surprisingly they are stll on sale.

I am not sure how many does nowadays, all the people I know uses the digital ones or their cellphones as alarm clock. Like me I use my cellphone to wake me up when I need to at a certain time.

This is precisely my point, everyone that I know tends to use their mobile phone as an alarm. Nevertheless, since the old fashioned alarm clock is still on sale it is logical to assume that some people are actually buying them, otherwise they would have disappeared entirely.

My mom still use those old fashioned clocks no doubt technology has given us much more but at times its not about being modernised but what our body demands my mother has tried mobiles and all to get up early but her internal system does not respond to that as she kept complaing that she cant hear mobile alarms because shez used to those old fashioned clocks so now she has replaced mobiles n tuners with old clocks n you wont belive she get up the very moment alarm blows

It is rare to find someone using them nowadays, but of course they will still do the same job that were initially designed for.

I use a digital alarm clock, but I wake up to the radio instead of the buzzers. I really hate digital alarm clocks because they have to be reset everytime it gets unplugged or the power goes off. I had a good old fashioned alarm clock with the moving hands and was actually looking for it the other day, but couldn't find it. I'm thinking of buying real soon. They are easier to set. Lloyd

I admit that they were very reliable, but I am still surprised that they are popular considering all the alternatives that now exist.

Yes I still do use an alarm clock to wake me up, if it is important that I be some where at a certain time. I can not use a radio station as I will snooze and listen for hours before I realize that is my alarm. All my life I have had the ability to wake up at a certain time, If I have to be up at say 6AM I will think to myself five to six. and sure enough I am awake enough to turn my alarm clock off be for it goes off. There was a time when i was taking medication and I would have slept through world war 3 but now I am accustomed to them and again I can wake up if i use my internal time clock, but if it is vital I am at some place at a certain time I will set my alarm just in case, but most often about 97% of the time I do not need the mechanical clock.

I get the impression that you have the same opinion as myself, that if you are supposed to be somewhere then you should make the effort to do so. It is nice to find someone who cares about punctuality, especially nowadays when so few care about such matters.

Yes I am still using it. And I have one similar to the one on the picture you posted. It was an alarm clock that my father gave to me as a gift when I left home to go to school in another city. So it's sentimental to me and since then I took it wherever I went to live. My husband tells me that it's so loud for him! But he got used to it lol

I find that very loud alarm clocks are unsuitable for me now, but when I was younger I certainly needed one.

I do not find the old alarm clocks very useful nowadays, but they are certainly attractive pieces and nice ornaments.

I too use my mobile only to set alarms to wake me up. i plan to buy an old fashioned alarm clock, I mean a really old fashioned unique looking alarm clock and put it as a show piece in the corner of my desk. Even though we have a clock on out PCs desktop, it nice to have one on the top of our desks..

Since I have my swanky cellphone, I have never use my old alarm clock to wake me up every morning. I use my phone instead. It ha s advantage; I can go ahead check for my text messages and voice mails as soon as I wake up. I have receive SMS from different time zones so they come in to my phone while I'm sleeping. I'd like to check them out as soon as woke up so that it's imperative that my cellphone is the first thing I check every morning. Making it my alarm clock does the trick.

I prefer to use a pleasing tune because as long as I am awake then I can get out of bed. However, I know several people who need to use a really irritating sound to force them to wake up.

I would have loved to use that old fashioned one but I really didn't have a chance to see one. When I was little our alarm clock at home was one that plays a soft music and it wakes you up very gently. Now I use cellphone.

The old style with 2 bells on the top were anything but gentle at waking you up. I prefer the use of a mobile phone because the noise is adequate, but for some people the loud bells made a big difference.

I usually use my mobile to waken me up any time I need but I'm still using the ring tune related to clocks. It's a nice way to use music for waking you up but I don't use it cause I'm afraid that I can't wake up, I can listen to the music and fall in dreams again.

I use my cell phone as my alarm clock. I make sure I pick the loudest, most annoying noise on my phone so that it will be sure to wake me up. There have been a few blunders, though. Like when I didn't sleep well at night, I have turned off my alarm, woken up an hour or two late, and didn't even remember it. I would probably end up doing this same thing with a regular alarm, though.

I leave the mobile inthe next room, so turning it off is not an option unless I actually get out of bed.
