The Final Fantasy series needs a make-over from the traditional fighting system as game consoles develop to a more realistic approach on gaming, what fighting system do you think future gamers of FF series would enjoy, turn-based or real-time?

In case you haven't noticed, the newer Final Fantasy installments had been getting battle system makeovers. FFX features in-battle party substitution, while FFXII takes it a bit further by integrating battles with exploring (without the need for a separate battle sequence). That's one of the things I love about the Final Fantasy series. They recognize their influence as a franchise and they innovate the gameplay with every installment. I do hope they continue to good work even without Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Oh sorry, I got carried away and I forgot all about the question. I prefer FFXII's new battle system. It saves a lot of time in that you don't have to enter a separate battle scene and you can see opponents from a distance so you can decide whether or not you feel like getting into a fight. No more random battles!

I have to agree. I also prefer turn-based style compared to real-time when playing rpg games. With turn-based you are free to formulate your battle strategy beforehand specially in long and tough boss battles. On the other hand real-time gets your reflexes up at times it is more enjoyable to play. SO I guess it would depend on how the game mechanics would be. Some games are strategically better played turn-based while others are more enjoyable played in real-time style.
