Well, if you plan to write a lot, you could get sign up for a blog account at blogger. If you're more interested in networking and posting multimedia content, you could try a website like vox or multiply. Getting content up on the net isn't as hard as you might think, but laying out your website (changing HTML to suit your needs) may be a little harder. It isn't very necessary though.

i don't think multiply accounts are not considered as personal website since it's a community site. You should have accounts in free hosting sites like Geocities.com, Freewebs.com, Atspace.org or Freewebstown.com if you know HTML codings already.
Anyways, here's my website http://www.pinkista.net
I have 3 domains, but my personal site is the one i mention above. ^__^
