With my job i meet many people of all ages and i always find it interesting talking to the older generation about this kind of thing. I've lost count of the amount of times i've been told they have seen it all before and its just a cycle the planet goes in and they have seen it all before. Personally i think if they can't even predict the weather tomorrow correctly, how they think they can predict climate change is beyond me!

Actually they can. They read the history books. For instance, in the early Roman Empire and the previous Repulican period, it was fairly warm until near the end of the Roman Empire where it grew colder and the barbarians could move their wagons over the ice. (Gibbons, the Fall of the Roman Empire) There was a period in the early middle ages where it became warm and then later on in the real middle ages, it became cooler (I do not know the exact century). That lasted on until past the 19th century and now we are seeing a warm period. By the way, that cold period from the middle ages lasted a few hundred years. The weather the next day can be predicted by individuals to some extent -the sky, but the weather report you hear on TV may be not from a local station so someone who lives in Ontario cannot predict the weather accurately in Manitoba because they are not close to the situation.

So very true, good point.

I think its just another phase, the world goes through these up-down climate changes all the time over long periods of time. Problem is we only started recording the temperatures in 19th century, which means according to our data that the temperature is keeping on rising. But it seems to have a good effect on people's perception & government's perception of how to solve the problem; get rid of pollution. Which you can't argue against, so why try to change peoples minds on global warming as their belief will aide the progression of mankind ultimately. http://misterbelgic.blogspot.com

Good thoughts...I also believe if there is a global warming it is just part of an overall trend. The earth has been around a lot longer than we have and I'm sure it has survived much more drastic changes. With the advent of humans and their technology driven society the climate is taking a beating and we should consider taking care of mother earth better.

I prefer Climate Change to Global Warming, there are many different causes, some natural, some man made, Greedy Governments are using Climate Change to cause fear among people, so that they can increase taxes by claiming that the increased taxes will help combat global warming. Natural Causes (reputed to be over 90%) include distance between sun & earth which varies over a 100,000 year cycle, and sun spots, volcanic activity, and tilt of the earth which also varies over a long period.

Exactly so, I do think we need to consider man made damage and try to correct some of it, but there is a lot that has to do with the planet itself.

I think global warming is real in that the earth goes through warming and cooling cycles naturally. I think that global warming as portrayed by activists such as Al Gore and certain scientists who claim that man and industry is responsible is a hoax. As to what we can do to help, other than eliminating as much pollution as possible, not much. The earth will warm until it is time for it to cool again.

I think you are absolutely right, the earth itself is on top of a chemical reaction right at the core and as a chemical reaction goes it will either cool or create heat and it is a natural occurance.

This is true but I think we are speeding it. A perfect example is the people visiting the glaciers. I don't know how many but I am sure it is in the hundreds visit in boats daily. I am sure all of those 98 degree heaters and the ship itself helps the glaciers melt. Heat melts ice. People need to think. If we stopped the tour boats to the north and south poles it will help. If this only saves days isn't it worth it?

I am sure we are causing changes and we need to do something about our extravagance. If we don't the price may be more than we can afford.

It's the natural cycle of what goes on in Earth. There was a global cooling before. God controls the elements. You wait a few years (if the Second Coming does not coming during that period) and it will start to cool, and them some idiot 'scientist' and politician will tell us we had better turn up the temperature on our thermostats, and go back to using incandescent lights because the earth is too cool.

Natural cycles are the way the climate works. You have to have changes to balence things out.

I believe the scientific evidence of mankind's impact on the natural state of the earth is compelling. The mechanics involved make perfect logical sense. I will say that there are extremists on both sides that either overplay or downplay the issue. I don't believe we are all going to be wiped out or something within a few hundred years, but I certainly believe that we will cause our future descendant's lives to be much more difficult by our actions today. Absolutely, extremists sure are overplaying their hand now. There is still the action vs reaction theory to think about as far as changing some of the manmade damage. But I don't feel the need to cry impending doom allover the world. But it does support the theory that man is his own worst enemy.

I agree. I think that it's a real issue to be concerned about, but I don't think it means anything like the end of the world, but it could cause some real problems.

global warming is real and happening. the world is manifesting changes in temperature, unusua; behaviour of weather, winters are not too cold, summers are too hot. polar bears are going to get extinct as ice is melting at the poles. scientists are planning now to pollute the sky with sulphur through many jetplanes so that the warm sun rays are reflected back and the earth remains colder. its not a hoax frn.

There is definately some strange weather patterns, but I'm not sure I go with the global warming theory. I guess we have to wait till all the trees are counted on this one.

Hello, sumofalltears,we are all suffering from the effects of global warming,it is real. The climate has been more extreme than before, some countries may have experienced some weather condition they never experienced before, some countries may have drought throughout the year while the others may have torrential rains and floods. Not only increasing the temperature, the ocean current have been changed and the sea water level have been risen, may be some days later, what happened in the movie' The Day After Tomorrow 'will be real,we better cope with it now or it will be too late.

This is very true, but I fear that whatever steps we do manage to take towards reversing manmade damage may very well be a case of too little to late.

It has been snowing here for 5 days. I think it is because of the climate change. It used to rain during the week of my birthday for 30 years but now it doesn't. It snowed 5 inches in October 2 years ago. It doesn't do that. The weather is always bad in February. Haven't seen it in about 4 years. We get weeks of rain during the hurricane season which is new to this area. The plants are blooming in strange times and acting funny. There is definitely a change going on.

it is true!I am Chinese,we here went through warm winters and cold springs, even heavy snow in springs. Our climate has been abnormal already, human beings should pay more attention to this and protect environment as much as possible.

No doubt about that, we need to change our ways to save this planet from self destruction.

The single biggest threat to the Earth is the gasoline engine, those of you that have been to Los Angeles on a smoggy day know what I'm talking about and cars have only been around about 100 years. I don't think the atmposphere can take another 100. Global warming is all too real and we better do something fast.

Hi hon, I wonder how many people will have to perish from the smog before it occurs to somebody that there is a problem.
