Ever look at the ingredients in the commercial shaving creams? They’re filled with unpronounceable and potentially harmful chemicals. I found this simple formula to make and use instead. It smells good enough to eat and leaves your legs for women or face for men or wherever, feeling soft and smooth.
INGREDIENTS
2 ounces almond oil
1/2 ounce beeswax
4 ounces water
2 ounces liquid castile soap
1 ounce glycerin
1 teaspoon borax
1/3 teaspoon grapefruit seed extract
20 drops essential oils: Thyme, lemongrass, clove, eucalyptus, rosemary, or lavender--or a combination--are highly antiseptic as well as delicious-smelling.
1. Combine oil and beeswax in a double boiler over medium heat. Once the wax has melted, remove from heat and stir in the water, soap, glycerin, and borax. Blend with a whisk or handheld beater until creamy. Add grapefruit seed extract and essential oils and stir to blend.
Makes 1 cup of shaving cream. This formula will keep 6 months in a glass jar with a screw top

It is really funny. I prefer being in jeans and a tee-shirt with no makeup on. And here I sell Avon. I love the make-up selection that they have. I also like to build things and I love to cook. But I never take the time out to pamper myself.
I bought a new bathing suit over the weekend and feel guilty about purchasing it. One day after the kids are grown I might. But right now between Avon, Passion Parties, homeschooling, being a mom and wife, earning money online and mrs. home improvement. I am tired.

Oh yes, I shave. But I normally dry shave so I don't use shaving cream anyway. What you gave would be interesting to try though. :P

I too tend to dry shave after the shower softens. Anyway, I had hoped this would be valuable to men also. Thanks for responding.

I used to shave, but my legs required it be done at least every 2nd day, and this was a nuisance. So I started waxing.
Once I found a recipe for homemade wax. Although easy to make, it was difficult to use, so now I am back to the bought wax.
My daughter who has the same poroblem as me with hairy legs, wants to wax too, although this could be a little difficult for a early 14 year old.

I never use commercial shaving cream to shave my legs with. I always make myown but I do not use this recipe. I will try this. It sounds wonderful. It has all the right ingredients for a smooth shave and skin softener. Thanks for sharing.

For the past 40 yerars i am shaving. For the past 35 years i am doing the thing with out a shaving brush or cream. May be you are having a formula for the cream. But i use a very down to earth cream. i do shaving while i take the bath. First i take a good bath using the toilet soap. Then while wet i put the same soap on my place to be shaven, the face. Give it a good application by massaging with the hand, then shave normally and very easily. It is very effective and very hygenic.I am practicing it for the past so many years. The advantages are:
1.Cost saving.
2.No infection from germs at cut skins.
3.Blades can be used for a longer time.
4. The process gives an extended time of bathing.
5. Savings on time and avoiding the monotonous shaving ritual.

Willow thank you again for another great recipe. I am still working on collecting the ingredients for the facial cream. I have copied this one to keep also :)) I adore home remedies that often work better then the high priced chemicals we are using. Keep them coming my friend.

Thanks... I shave with suds from bar soap but aim to try this. Sounds awesome. And I totally think we shouldn't put stuff on our skin that shouldn't go in our body (chemicals and artificial things).

NOt sure what Liquid Castile soup is, and not sure I want borax on my skin. Just being honest. Truthfully, I don't need anything but water to shave my legs, and a little bit of soap for my underarms. I don't buy expensive fancy shaving creams. I also don't shave everyday because it's such a waste of time to me!!

Willowlady, that seems interesting. Where do you get those ingredients though? I wouldn't have a clue where to get the essential oils, beeswax, castile soup or glycerin. Thanks for in advance. I usually use the commercial shaving gel which is probably not too good, but sometimes I don't use anything. Have a nice day.

Thanks for sharing. I don't use shaving cream cause most of them I'm allergic to. (Which shouldn't surprise me cause I'm allergic to everything.)
I will have to try this one and see if it works for me.

Yes,i shaved my leg every once in a while but more often my armpit hair.I usualy will aplly some lotion after shave but i'm not use to put on any shaving cream before shaving.
However,i still thing it is better to put on some cream to protect your skin before shave, but i'm just too lazy to do it...

Quite an interesting Recipe if you ask me. I do not have all of these ingredients around to consider trying it, but this does look interesting, and I am sure would help a person to have better skin in the process.

It sounds like good stuff, but I'm a bit too lazy to find all of these ingredients and make myself a batch!
I shave the old fashioned way, with shaving soap lathered and applied with a badger hair brush and a straight razor. It's not a quick as using modern razors, but it still gives a great shave and although the items are expensive, I only ever buy shaving soap every othe ryear or so, so that suits a tightwad like me down to the ground!

I usually just shave in the shower using shower gel, but I think I would like to give this a try. It sounds like a great recipe.
