Normally I would have answered NO to that question. I have very very ticklish feet and don't want anyone to touch my feet - and you can stop looking at my feet right now. Even that drives me crazy. Today however I uncovered some interesting information:Massage can help you relax, de-stress and improve your physical and mental well-being. "A University of Miami study found that women suffering from breast cancer who received massages three times a week for five weeks experienced improved immune function. This helped speed recovery from their chemotherapy and radiation treatments." "Anyone and everyone can benefit from reflexology’s amazing ability to harmonize all bodily systems. It effectively enhances the functioning of mind, body and soul. Reflexology is a term that refers to the stimulation of the feet, hands or ears in order to affect other parts of the body via specific points that are called microsystems. The microsystems in one part of the body — for example on the foot — contains a representation or “map” of the entire body that can be stimulated to enhance the natural healing processes. Reflexology treatments can help relieve stress and muscular tension, improve blood supply and circulation, and encourage the unblocking of energy/nerve pathways." — from Reflexology by Chris Stormer. The attached chart showes the different areas of the feet that effect different parts of the body. I think I am going to have to work on my phobia of having my feet rubbed – how about you, which are you, a yes or no? Would you change your mind knowing this information? Share with me your best foot massage. Or, talk me into believing it won’t tickle when someone touches my feet.

I would say yes even if I didn't know all this wonderful information faith! I simply feel so relaxed and happy after a good foot massage. I don't have very sensitive feet, I do feel ticklish but foot massages are allowed..hehe You should try it faith, don't think it will tickle, then it won't ;o) Thanks for this info, very useful!

I am a YES in this. I've given massages for years. Both foot and body. When I studied Transendental Meditation I learned to rub the balls of my feet to relax me even more. Now that I take care of dad I do his feet and he always falls asleep right after it. So a yes indeed here. Thanks for the chart also. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!

There is a soothing effect when we get any extremity rubbed/massaged. Just human nature to feel relaxed at those times.

LOL - now if we were talking back or shoulder massages that's a different story - I would be purring like a kitten.

For 3 years I worked at a foster care home on 3rd shift. I had a couple of residents that would be up during the night alot and I started rubbing lotion on their hands and feet for something to do and give them a little one on one time. They loved it and any time they would see me with a bottle of lotion they would stick their hands in my face or start taking their shoes and socks off. Management said I had to "stop" doing it because it was teaching them bad habits.

hi byfaith! I want to apologize for not responding to some of your discussion been so busy lately with law school and work. About the foot massage I love it, the way they pamper my feet with foot massager and manually massaging it really feels relaxing. My younger sister really massage me and my mom every night she is a nursing assistant with some trainings in reflexology that's why I get it free lol!!! I think it tickles me the first few days but when you get accustomed to it you crave for a daily foot massage lol!!

Oh maribel I knew you were busy, I've been rather scarce the last few days myself - writing articles. That drained my brain and I just couldn't find words or finger power to respond much.

We have one foot refloxology just a few houses away from my place. I kept looking outside the shop and they also have this chart same as yours. But I heard its kind of painful. Kind of sucking out your breathe...LOL. For now, I'm content with a body massage. :)

I think it wouldn't be good if it hurt - maybe they're pressing too hard or something. I've been setting here playing with my feet, pressing on different points, it does feel good and nice thing is I know if I'm pressing too hard or not.

I LOVE foot massages! I just can't stand giving them! I have a slight phobia of other people's feet. I can't even stand them brushing against me when they're in socks. They just seem so unclean and horrid. My partner is lovely though. He gives me regular foot massages when we're sat on the sofa. I knew about the acupressure points being linked to the whole body - it's a basic principle of reflexology, so as long as you don't have someone gouging them and hurting you, massages can only be a good thing! If you can get over your phobia they're heavenly!

Now I'm just the opposite, I'm more than willing to give them and have been told I give really good massages I just can't stand having my feet touched.

Why not? There are so many acupuncture points at your feet that a massage would work wonders through. But hey, if you go for regular foot massages, it is gonna burn a big hole in your pockets. :P

LOL after the thousands of times I've yelled "Don't touch my feet" there is no way I would pay someone to touch them :) After reading this article though I may at least try doing it myself.

I love foot massages!!! I usually have to beg my husband for one - but I did actually get one last night. They certainly make me relax. I got mine right before bed last night - and boy did I sleep good!!! I also love to get a full body massage (my friend owns her own massage therapy business). I would get one every day if I could afford them!! LOL

Did you change your avatar in the last few day? Am I losing it again? LOL I am praying I sleep good tonight, haven't slept the last few nights and last night was the worst. All this massaging my own feet should be good for something.

I think you have convinced me. Where do I sign up. I wonder if when you are getting a back massage will they through a foot massage in with it. My insurance covers massages if a doctor orders them.

My massage therapist always does my feet besides the rest of my body. My insurance covers 30 visits per year. I do not need a doctor's order and my massage therapist bills my insurance and she does not charge me any extra.

hi faith, yes since i am in the beauty business,I have known this from quite sometime..The shop that i worked in we had a lady that did reflexology, she was the sister of one of our stylist her name was (faith)she could give the very best foot massages...It is nothing like you think,i am ticklish too, but the way they do it is they hold onto your entire foot and do massage, and believe it or not it does not tickle...faith had several ladies going to her because of different medical problems that they had...One i know had a stomach disorder and one was fighting menopause, they swore by it...She had her own little room with a chair that layed back, and she used some type of oils on your feet..You can take a course and become a reflexologist and thats what she did,she had lots of customers....I have all the charts for it in some of my things...for my birthday this last month my two daughters got togeather and sent me 20 beautiful roses and a gift certificate to have a full body massage and a facial...I have not used it yet but i am just as soon as i can get away to do it...I have never had a full body massage but the ones that have had one ,like my daughters say it is so wonderful,so i will find out soon...I am a YES ....I really don't think you would have a problem with a foot massage,it is not a light stroke,it is a deep massive massaging effect, and i do think you would enjoy it...

Oh how nice of your daughters that sounds like something my #2 son would do but the other 3 would be more inclined to give me a gift like "I won't ask you for anything all day" or "I won't pretend I'm going to tickle your feet today", youngest actually did this last year, "Mom your birthday present from me is if you see any spiders (I hate even typing the word) I'll kill them free of charge"... Maybe I need to cough up the money and get a professional one done or at least try - I wonder if they would give me a refund if I couldn't go through with it.

Oh I am so there. Coincidentally my daughter tried to foot rub her way off punishment today. Didn't work for her, but it certainly did for me. She's off tomorrow anyhow but I kept telling her that I was not letting her off but she tried.

I have heard similar coments about foot massage. Apparently various pressure points on ones feet, directly relate to other parts of our body. I'm not sure how, but your reflexology comments made sense. I can well believe that feet massage reduces stress, hence improves your imuune system. Thus, cancer patients could well benefit from this.

I love getting foot massages, or massages period. I especially enjoy foot massages now since I'm having some pretty annyoing/bad pain in my foot from an 'injury' that no one can figure out.

Reflexology is great. My husband gives the best food massages. If I have a headache or have some stress a good massage and it just goes away. I highly recommend it.

i would love to get reflexology done as i love my feet a lot , yes, it tickles me, but i will definately enjoy .i think it is a massaging of feet to cure a disease.Practitioners of reflexology claim that they can cure a variety of aches and pains by massaging the correct reflex points on the foot.it is said that migraines and sinus problems can be cured through this. it really tickles a lot when someone touches my feet in fact when i go for a pedicure or a foot massage too, half of the time i m laughong only.i enjoy the massage when my hubby gives it to me as he gives in a much devoted manner and i love to see him doing it. he gives such a good massage that i m relieved of all the stress at that moment and he knows certain points very well to release stress, pain and migraine as i suffer from migraine.he uses many more things while massaging my feet apart from his hands.i really loved this discussion of yours to answer and love to write much much much more but i cant here LOL. wanna ask , ask me.......:-) ;-)

I can't tell you it won't tickle because my feet are not ticklish...got that from my mama. Growing up, every night I would sit in front of her chair and massage her feet for hours with lotion. She loved it. If I ever spend the night with her even now I will do that for her. My girls have taken up the tradition with my feet...the difference is that they actually want me to pay them for it. I love someone massaging my feet...now my body is a different story. My husband gave me a gift certificate for a 1-hour body massage Christmas of 2005...I haven't used it yet. I can't make myself want to enjoy it. I'm sure it will be nice, but I just have this hang-up about it.

at first of course it feels like the lady doing the massage is tickling your feet but later on you'll find it a wonderful feeling,i'll asure you'll love it and it will make you relax.it's important to have a foot massage atleast once a week to relieve the tension inside our feet.for your complete satisfaction also include foot scrub and pedicure.
