metallica were ranked by MTV the third greatest heavy metal band in history and is listed at #5 on VH1's "100 greatest artist of hard rock". Metallica were ranked 1 by VH1's "20 greatest metal bands" and will be eligible for rock & roll hall of fame in 2008. they are placed in the same categeory of megadeth, slayer and antrex.

Yup, they're one of the "Big 4" of thrash metal in the '80s with Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax: all great bands. What's your favorite Metallica album. I have a hard time choosing between Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, but really their first 5 albums are all perfect in my mind (the later ones aren't bad either, but I don't love those ones like I do the older albums).

Yeah, you really know you're a Metallica freak when you turn on the radio or something and it's in the middle of a solo and if you wanted to you, could name the album, song number, song title, and maybe even the year after listening to it for like half a second. Then you're kinda like. . .whoah, maybe that's too much.

Metallica was a great band from 1981-1990 and then they sold out to become hard rockers on MTV. Screw Metallica. Real metal....IRON MAIDEN!!

I really don't think they "sold out." I think it's more like they just wanted to experiment with a different style. Sure, both Load and Reload weren't near as "metal" as their others, but they're not bad as hard rock albums. Metallica's S&M album was awesome, you've gotta admit, and that was well after 1990, and so was Garage Inc, from 1998. As for Iron Maiden, yeah, they are pretty awesome, I've gotta admit. I hope neither band retires soon.
