ideally how long do a couple needs to be engaged before getting married?

My hubby and I were engaged about six months before we got married. we wanted it that way, though. Everyone is different, though. Whatever you are comfortable with is best for you, I think. We couldn't wait to get married. We knew each other for over 6 years, had been roommates, and were best friends for 5 years. I think that's why we got married the way we did.
