don't worry, it is completely normal and I had them at the end of my pregnancy with my son, especially once he dropped, I was at '0' station for a few days before I had him and it felt like his head was right between my legs! just know that you will be having weird aches and pains until the baby makes his/her grand entrance.

Hi, hope you are ok. The pains that you are having at the moment in your pregnancy are nothing to worry yourself about. This is a sign that your baby is close to birth. your baby is healthy and your midwife is right with what she says, it is the so called Braxton Hicks contractions, which is a bit like your baby practising for when he/she is going to be born. I wish you good luck and i am thinking of you at this time.

Thanks, that is so sweet! These are different from braxton-hicks, which I've been having some of... this is an internal, sharp pain, but I wouldn't say it's really bad or anything, just new.

Thi sis your cervix effacing, or thinning out as the time for delivery approaches. For some it is painless, for others there are periods of discomfort. You should check with your doctor, though. YOu want to be sure everything is moving along as it should!

So it isn't dilation, it is effacement? Could you describe to me what dilation feels like? This is my first pregnancy, so I'm not sure what to expect as far as what the sensations will actually feel like, and I'm curious. I'm taking great natural childbirth classes, but the terms they use are really vague and don't give me much of an idea what I'm up against! I see my midwife again on Sunday, so I'll ask her then as long as nothing changes.

Hello Astromama! Hang in there.... I had that pain when I was around the same gestation period as you. My gynae told me that it is common as the baby is positioning itself to be delivered soon. My baby was delivered at 37.5 weeks. She's now 3 years old.... Take care and all the best!!

Wow... to think I could have my baby in a week and a half! Be still my heart! Was this your first child, because everyone keeps telling me no way will I deliver my first that early, and to relax because I've still got at least a month to go! I wonder, though... because for some reason I think he's almost 'done' in there, and he could be ready to come say 'hi' to his mama soon!

Nope.... She's my second one.. I guess she's a little impatient.. My first, a boy, was out at 38.5 weeks. People were also saying that the second one would be out earlier and they were right. Thanks for choosing my response as the Best Response. Take care... May you have a safe and speedy delivery soon...:

actualy dont neglect that pain..in ur discussion u hv not mentioned that u r 1st gravida or next to that.
as ur midwife said is true...that was softning of cervix,it may lead to dilatation of cervix after that.
so b careful of that pains at any time it will lead to serious pains of delivery.

You are going to have some very odd pains now that you are towards the end of your pregnancy. I would get these pains and pressures like that as well. Your body is going through tons of changes getting ready for delivery. Just keep your midwife well informed of anything going on. Good luck on your delivery! : )

I've had 4 children and my personal opinion is you should call your doctor or mid-wife. This could be false labor pains but should be checked just in case. No doctor on myLot is going to know exactly what is going on with your pregnance.

I'm not sure what this means but I think it has to do with dilation.
