Got a row of my other half tonight - he is not overly amused cos I've been typing so much since joining mylot that several letters have all but disappeared - told him that it didn't matter too much as I wanted to get one of those illuminating keyboards anyway ...oops, that didn't help too much! What do I do now, cut back on mylot, get a new keyboard or draw the letters back on and cover them with nail varnish? What did you do - or have you done this as well and what did you do? Help lol

Why don't you just buy a new one. It will solve all of your problem.

I do a ton of typing and have had my keyboard for several years, but do not notice the keys rubbing off at all. Keyboards are not too expensive, so I would probably invest in a new one if you need to. Exactly how much time do you spend on mylot? LOL

Oh I understand what you mean well the same thing has happened to my keyboard but they do not costs too much to buy another keyboard plus I am a touch typists so it does not really matter that I cannot see all the letters on there.

My letters are rubbed off on my keyboard too, and it's really funny watching someone who can't type try to use it, lol.
I don't know what the prices are like where you live, but around here folks can buy GE keyboards for $11 at BigLots. I'd spend the $11 before going to the effort of painting the letters back on, but that's me.
About you and your time situation between your hubs and mylot, that's up to you and him to come up with a compromise on that.

It's something I'm not bothered about too much, I learned to type at school, so never look at the letters on the keyboard anyway, so it doesn't matter if the letters have worn off. Although I don't know where the keys actually are, my fingers do, and that's what counts anyway.
New Keyboards cost from £5 upwords, so a nice new one could be a welcome!! Christmas or Birthday present for him.

Now I know I'm not the only one. For years I was too embarrassed to admit it - that my letters had warn away on some of my keys and others just appeared as disgusting smudges. I never noticed this on friend's keyboards when visiting their house and when anyone came to my place I would have to hide the keyboard under the sofa. Why me? I used to ask. It was obviously a cheap keyboard. I have also contemplated buying an illuminous keyboard as I usually tyoe in the dark anyway. All I want to say is: it's not your fault! ;-)

I won't blow my own trumpet here my good friend but because I am a touch typist I don't need to see the letters on the keyboard visually, but I hear where you are coming from! I have got through quite a few keyboards however, through stupid accidents like giving Kevin the keyboard a drink of coffee LOL! An Apple Keyboard cost me £20 including delivery, not expensive, so to keep the peace why not invest in a new one? Please don't cut back on Mylot or I'll be round demanding to know why LOL! Nail varnish will come off eventually. Go on treat yourself, you're worth it!

Thank you wolfie - think I will try and get the illuminated keyboard - it'll save having to have the light on late at night! Hope Kevin didn't pass along his taste for coffee to hi heir! lol Don't worry don't think I could cut back on mylot if I tried! xxx ps - used to be able to touch type years ago and thought it was like riding a bike (you didn't forget how!) but it isnit lol

oh no.. hahaha you are soo addicted mummy! i havent reached that point though- luckily i think i have a nice keyboard- the letters are still intact.. haha.. although letters N and A is starting to dissapear a bit.. LOL...
just buy a new keyboard and coat it with nail polish before you use it... so the letters will have a longer lifespan.. =) that's what i used to do before when we had a computer rental business =)

What kind of lousy keyboard is that? I have never come across that happening to my keyboards no matter how much I type! :P
In Singapore, you can get "normal" keyboards at very low prices. For maybe 5-6 US dollars, you can get a "cheapo" keyboard AND mouse. You can practically change it every week if you like. ^^
But if you are going for those nice illuminating ones, then go ahead. I do hope that you type often in the dark - otherwise, it would be quite a waste of money, eh? :P

Perhaps your keyboard isn't your biggest problem right now. If you are spending so much time online that you are neglecting your husband and upsetting him then perhaps you should cut back on Mylot. Family is more important than a computer monitor.

thanks for the advice but there is not much else I can do at the moment! I manage to work a few hours but have mobility problems and am having major back surgery in 3 weeks! My family are always my main priority in life - but since you haven't been on mylot much you might not realise that you can make some wonderful friends who are there to encourage and support you all the way - my partner would be the first to complain either if I neglected him or if he didn't see the difference in my state of mind since discovering mylot!

My keyboard keys are also wearing off and my computer is not even 2 year's old. I just write the letters back on with a marker and put clear nail polish over the marker. It will not last forever but thats okay, I will redo it as needed.
