I am both a writer and a reader. I really think that you need to love both reading and writing to become a great writer. Because reading expands your vocabulary and helps your sense of style to read what others have written.

I love to read and write. I think it is important to read as much as you can in order to be a good writer. You should focus more on the genre you write in when you choose your reading. But, I like mysteries but know I couldn't possibly write one. It's good to step back and take a look at other genres once in awhile. I've been reading some young adult stories because I am considering writing some.
Right now, reading has had to take a back burner to writing. There just aren't enough hours in a day.

I agree with you pat. I can only read about an hour before bed. Some times I get engulfed into a book and I ending up putting it down at 3am (I get up at 6:30am) and no sleep! I think the hardest part in writing is the start, sometimes I will start in the middle and goes form there. Then you got that horrible writers block!

I'm definitely a voracious reader, but I have never tried my hand at writing. I think I'll just stick to my reading since I have so many books here that I haven't read yet.

I am definitely a writer more than a reader, although I love to read, too. With writing, I feel as though it puts to use my imagination, which seems to get stimulated when I start to write. Reading does the same to me, even though not at the same extent that it happens when I write.

I like to write and read. I like to think that I am a writer because I am a reader. When I was younger I didn't have brothers or sisters, and I read constantly. The books I spent my time with helped strengthen my English skills and encouraged me to write, too. I don't know that writing wouldn't have come along without me reading...it may have. My first poem just sort of sprung from a really lousy period when my parents divorce 13 years ago. Writing is cathartic for me, and that's why I say I may have written whether I loved books or not. But part of me wanted to write to sort of continue that tradition of giving children or adults a literary world in which to hide. Reading kept me sane when I was younger. Writing has been my psychologist for over a decade now.

Although I consider myself both, if I had to choose only one, I would say that I am a reader first. I really think that people who don't read are missing out on so much in life. There are entire worlds to experience and learn about through the magic of words. Even people who love movies (like me) or TV a lot wouldn't be anywhere without the writers who created the content. And if you've ever read a book and then seen the movie, you will know that the books is always better. Why? Because it's the purest form of creative imagination that allows us to bring our own experience and knowledge to the table. It allows us to bring it to our own world, instead of explaining it all out. That's the magic of writing. But I think you have to do a lot of reading to get there.

I like both. I love a good read. I am also writing a story, which the 1st chapter is almost done. I will be posting it on Fictionpress.com. I also have some other works of writing there also. I love to read, but when it comes down to it I think I like writing better.

Both! I adore reading and writing and do those pretty much every day..have since I learned how to read and write practically.
I don't know..there's something about get one's imagination and brain going..the thrill of great storylines and plots..figuring out the story before its end. The peace at feeling one's emotions flowing into words of a song..
I don't know lol. It's hard to articulate.

I love both reading and writing. I think I first learned how to write well after reading too much. It all starts with reading coz' it broadens your imagination. But if you're pertaining to just 'writing' whatever's on your mind, like a diary or journal.. well, I do that too ;)

I like both reading and writing. I try to read a lot and have varied interests. I also like writing, though I didn't enjoy it initially but now I seem to have grown to like it after I started to blog.
I maintain a blog: http://www.simple-fix.blogpspot.com wherein I post simple practical advice and tips to improve our everyday life.

I used to read all of the time, but now I don't have the time like I used to. I think that reading helps the writing process. But I have to read something in a different genre than what I write or it will influence my storyline.
Since I have a family now I write in small amounts of spare time, fifteen minutes here and hour there. I used to sit down and write for three or four hours at a time. So now I guess I'm a writer that seldom reads.

I looove to read and write. My dad (who writes screenplays) says that reading can improve your writing skills, so its good to do a little of both. But I enjoy both as good passtimes
