music lessons for kids

I have read that there are piano and violin lessons for children as young as three. Is it a good idea to get our kids started that young?

I'm not sure unless it is something that they want to do. That seems to young to me.

I know my 4 year old neice she comes to me wanting to know and me to teach her how to write and read but after awhile so gets bored so I stop also. i don't want to do to her like my dad did to me like pushing me into taking piano lessons at first it was fun. I can play but only by ear. I can read notes but I can't read notes and play at the same time.
