How do Sam and Dean pay for things?

I am talking about the show, Supernatural. How do the boys pay for things? I mean they don't have a job that pays them exactly..but they have to somehow pay for gas, hotel rooms, the occasional disguise when they're pretending to be something (a priest, a policeman, a government agent, etc), the occasional plane ticket, and not to mentioned FOOD. They order out all the time. So we know that's not exactly cheap. Are they living off the remainder of Sam's college money since he didn't finish the courses? How are they paying for all that? I don't reckon they happen to be rich. What do you guys think?

they showed it a few times in the beginning episodes. Dean gambles a lot and wins money, I believe he cheats. Not sure though. and they use fake credit cards.

Hm..I'll have to pay more attention whenever I get to watch both seasons over again. I'm surprised I didn't hear about that in the episodes they dealt with the Feds and regular ol' police..

It's been a while since I've seen the beginning episodes. I am almost 100% positive that Dean does gamble, nto sure if he cheats or not, he might just be really good lol. And im not positive about the credit cards either.

Heh, well thanks for posting. ^_^ I'm not sure if it's just my terrible memory either so I guess unless someone comes along and says something or I watch the episodes again we'll have to wait and see. It would make sense they use fake credit cards, they do use fake id's it's not too far a leap for credit cards I suppose -- and gambling does strike me as something Dean'd do.

here is a link to a TV Guide article answering questions.. they actually answered this one. It says by pool, card hustlind, credit card scams, ans small time cons. Read the rest at the link. http://www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Interviews-Features/Article/default.aspx?posting=%7B376215DE-10D7-4281-AF13-9EBF86F8AB5E%7D

I am so glad you asked this question. I have just recently started watching this show and absolutely love it. But I also was trying to figure out how they made their money too. They even had the episode where one accused the other of taking their money...but then was found outside the car that was part of a Trickster played to turn the brothers against the other. So I then was trying to figure out how they made their money. Thanks for posting this discussion...it really helped with some answers. :)

I do watch the show Supernatural...so I know that you mean. I have asked myself that same question over and over. How are they doing it? It is just a show right? It was not meant for people to wonder how they are getting the money. Maybe behind the scenes....they are stealing it! Just Kidding :) I don't know how they might be paying fir it because I know that they are not rich! :)

A page back someone was kind enough to give me a link to Supernatural's page on tv-guide.com, they have fake credit cards! And Dean does also gamble, and either he's very good or cheats lol. Or both maybe. Sam must've had to make peace with it, since he's the one who does tend to worry over every moral decision and questions most things. It does explain why they're not pinching for money when they go out or anything. Well, I'm addicted to shows which have hidden meanings..or where pretty much everything means something (Like Lost, or Carnivale)..but yeah, most shows these days don't have any hidden meanings. Just shows created by folks who're hoping they'll be successful enough so they can get paid buku money, heh. I just think its cool there ARE questions to ask about it, if there weren't I probably wouldn't very intrested in the show at all! And it'd probably mean it wasn't written well..but in any case, there are questions..and the show's AWESOME. So I have something to look forward to every Thursday night ^_^ Thanks for responding!

Stolen identities. That is their trick and the legacy that their father left them! I think it is a bit funny because they are total criminals although the show tries not to focus much on that. :) I donĀ“t mind though, I would love for a couple of hunks like that to save me from some demon or whatever, even if they are identity theives!

At the beginning of the whole series in season one, somewhere in the first five episodes or so, I can't remember which exactly, they showed Dean with all these credit cards that wasn't his. So he either steals credit cards and uses them or he copies them. Credit card fraud maybe. And one reply said something about Dean's gambling so yeah that too. Maybe they've got a fund that their dad left for them? Although that's not that possible, but maybe they do. I think Sam's in college on a scholarship so I doubt there's tuition left. He ran away from home after all so I doubt that he was able to get money. And it was mentioned in a recent episode that John Winchester spent their college tuition somewhere else. But I don't know how they can pull off that fake credit card thing for so long... I mean, they're wanted by the police and are on the run... Maybe they borrow from friends?

Most of their friends are hunters, the few others they have are different (Like the psychic friend of their dad's, the few other special kids who are on the good side), or else not in great positions to help them really -- like that cop lady who let them go. I doubt they'd be borrowing from friends. I guess they're just really good at the fake credit cards and id's..they do know a guy who's a genius with computers..and since John and Dean've been in the business a long time I guess it's likely that they would have to pick up some useful skills along the way. Plus Dean also seems pretty good at gambling too..so they must not rely completely on the credit card fraud.

yeah, in the very beginning, they talked about how Dean and the father were still doing credit card fraud, so I'm sure they're still keeping that up. and Dean does tend to play cards, and win a lot, so I'm sure that also helps. They just tend to not mention the money situation in the episodes this season.

It is the first comment left. Dean has lots of fake credit cards in lots of different names. Sam was pretty upset about it but he gave in. I believe it was on the first episode that Sam found out. Their father showed Dean how to do it. I don't know if Sam has any money of his own. He might. He did go to college and progally worked for a time being. Then again, this is TV.

basing it one dean's attitude and background, for sure he can get away with things. either he cheats or just smart up his way through.

i was also wondering about that before..but i saw an episode where they gambled and win a lot of money so i guess that is how they were able to fend for themselves..

Good Question. I have always thought that too. I have noticed that It got mentioned once that they dont have jobs and yet can still afford stuff.
