The Best Video Game Character

Who in your opinion is the best character from a video game ever? Is it indeed Mr. Mario or do you think some other digital personality has had more impact?

It is indeed Mario, I absolutely loved playing Mario brothers on my super nintendo! Those where some fun times. I also loved Sonic on Sega Genesis, back when it was cool in like the 5th grade. I had some very old school consoles, very high tech at the time though including one of the origional nintendos that I loved to play duck hunt on.
