Your spouse is cheating. Your religion is wrong. Your best friend gossips about you. There are many situations we face where the thruth is extremely painful. So would you prefer to know the truth in all circumstances, or are you willing to accept a lie that makes you feel better? Painful truth or comfortable lie?

In my life, truth is a must, in every conversation, dealing and relationship, however hard hitting or painful it might be. In real and practical world one can not afford a lie and specially when it's about principles, values and faith, a lie can't be tolerated. I learnt this lesson years before when i was in my 6th grade. I was told that GOD will grant everything you ask for. I use to ask for resources as we were not well off at that time. I use to pray to top my class which i always did but when in 6th grade i was third, it really pinched me and caused me to become agnostic in my life afterwards. I couldn't just help thinking that what was told to me is not true. why i am third when i prayed to be first? but later when i turned again a theist, i thanked GOD for that shock because i would never have tried otherwise for finding HIM myself. I beliee that HE listens to prayers but also has some prnciples and laws to govern this universe. In my family too, I apreciate everyone to be always truthful as a lie has short life and whe revealed, it causes real damage.
Having said that, sometimes i have to be diplomatic, but only with my parents when they are concerned about my health. if i am sick or get an injury and my mother calls to ask me if i am well, i do not lie but i do reply diplomatically neither accepting nor rejecting her concern as otherwise i fear that she or my father may get ill themselves being so sensitive towards me.

I would have to go with the painful truth.
Even though there are many truths that could hurt, I would rather know and once I get over the pain, I would be able to do something or change something with the situation to the better. Knowledge is power. Why live or love in error...when it could be done to the better if the truth were known?

For me, it would be painful truth, as I can't stand to not know the truth, and why live your life based on a lie? How real is that? Both feet on the ground, I say..

As the saying goes, "Truth hurts but liberates us." For me, it depends on the circumstances. If truth will hurt me than any of my love ones, I would settle for the truth than hide with lies and later will be hurt more than learning the truth as early as now. It would only cause much pain knowing, you are living on lies for all the years than settling for the truth as early as we can.
