As some of you all know I stock the infants department at Wal-mart (boo - I know). I noticed for the first time the other day this warning label on the Parents Choice pacifiers : "Warning do not tie pacifier around a child's neck as it presents a strangulation danger" I was like WHAT?! Who would do that? It scares me to think people would tie pacifiers (or anything for that matter) around a babies neck! Then I noticed that same warning was on ALL brands of pacifiers. It is so strange to me of these silly warnings. Another one is on peanuts warning you that it contains peanuts for those who are allergic! DUH! What's the strangest warning label you've come across? And what do you think about the pacifier warning label?

There are many strange label on about everything. I think that they have to put it on the package of the pacifiers because some dump person did this and they have to make sure that they do not get sued because of a persons stupidity. Therefore, they put it on the label so if it does happen again...they can just tell them that they should have read the labels! That is my explaination....that might not be it, but okay. As for the peanut thing....well, I was looking at the wrapper of a Peanut M&M and realize on the side that it said: Allergy Information: Contains Peanuts, Milk, and Soy Products. May Contain Almonds. Contain Almonds....isn't it suppose to be Peanut M&M's!! LOL Hmmm....here is another one. Not on a package, but on a sign in the entrance of a park. Here is what it said: This is a Nature Park wild life is present. Uh...duh!! :DD

Ah! I love that Nature Park Sign!!!! They put that sign there because there were complaints that there was a Mountain Lion in the park. They shut down the nature park for two weeks trying to catch the animal because it was eating people's pets at night. But since they could not catch it, they decided that they had to put up a sign to remind people that there are animals in a nature park. ha ha Ummm, yeah, that is why I would not have the woods as my backyard. Way too many things could jump out from them!

WOW that nature sign is something else! Do you guys live near one another? I guess on the almond label on the M&M's is probably put there just in case an almond chip or something gets in because they are made in the same factory. Our country is so sue happy that they have to cover their butts in anyway they can think of.

The silliest has to be the warning on the side of a McDonalds coffee cup, caution contents hot - LOL

Yes I agree that is ridiculous too but the peanut one I think is better.

Well the reason McDonalds had to put that was because they got sued for that lady who spilled coffee in her lap. You gotta think that if warnings are there because they have had a problem with that in the past, then there are really people who NEED these warnings. Like on an iron "Do Not iron clothes while on body"!!!

I can see the pacifier thing. I'm sure they don't mean wrapping a cord around the neck, but maybe putting it on like a necklace so that when they spit it out, it doesn't fall on the floor. But yeah, it doesn't sound like a good idea. Have you seen the warnings on plastic bags not to wrap it around a child's head?

I know what you mean but sometimes things like that just pop out on me. I've been stocking the baby stuff for over a year and I just noticed that!

Yeah , whenever you see a stupid warning you no someone was stupid enough to do it in the first place. Then they probably tried to sue the company, even if the damage done was their own fault. It's even worse when a company has to pay for these lawsuit that they lose. There is always people who are out to grab a buck at someone else's expense. Here in Canada they'll have to put one on the pacifers say " Don't tape to babies mouth" as we have recently had a case of a baby dieing from that very reason. At least the parent was charged, not the makers of the pacifer.

OH MY GOD! That is MUCH worse! I am very glad the parent was charged. That is INSANE! Who in there right mind would tape a pacifier to a babies mouth!

I have not come across any strange warning labels, probably because i dont read them. I think warnings are really silly, i mean, all people know what is good for them and what isnt. And in case of children, all parents know how to care for them, don't they??

I recently saw a warning print on back of a Lotto Ticket. Warning: Do not iron this ticket. Right! Because I commonly like to make sure that my Lotto Ticket does not have any wrinkles on the big night of a drawing!

Oh my! That is NUTS! I believe I've now heard it all. Maybe some idiot did it when they won once cause it was all folded up or something. So they ironed it before they took it in. Crazy...

You would totally love Bill Engvall and the "Here's Your Sign" stuff on CDs. They have a bunch of comedy done about warning labels. Like, "This rubby ducky is not a lifesaving device..." DUH! Hehe. Bleach... Do Not Drink. Umm, yeah. I think the pacifier one, I could unfortunately imagine stupid people doing things like that. I also knew a stupid kid who drank bleach too. In that case though, I think they should just do it and win a Darwin Award.

LOL - I'm with you on THAT! A kid who drank bleach...ugh! How could he stand the smell! I have heard some of Bill Engvall's comedy. It's kind of hard not to here in redneck country - Kentucky :) I'm not a fan but he is kind of funny. I like Jeff Foxworthy better.

Unfortunately there are some people that really do need those warnings. Also they are there now that we are a sue happy nation. I have seen the pacifier tied to a string and attached to the clothing of the kid before. So yes these warnings are unfortunately necessary. Sorry to say.

It is really awful that our nation has come to that. It saddens me to think that there are these kinds of people in the world who can have babies like that. And yet I can not. It seems wrong LOL.

There are lots of silly warnings labels. I think the peanuts warning is really silly. May be it looks silly, but companies have to be careful and they do it for defence. As some people are always ready to sue them for silly reasons.

Isn't that sad that we sue over things that should be considered common sence! And to think the lawyers actually take the cases...anything for a dollar I guess.

The problem is that commonsense must have only been given to a few people and not all, some people do the stupidist things and therefore require stupid warnings. The best one ive seen was on a toaster " Do not imerse in water" Well hello the majority of people understand that electricity and water dont mix well, oh i supose it does if you put washing powder and clothes in as well.

I've always loved the directions on a shampoo bottle...Lather, Rinse, Repeat. How many times do you need to do his before your hair is clean? I suppose this way they sell a lot more bottles of shampoo, because people can't get out of the shower! Tooooo busy washing their hair! LOL!!! I love the the peanuts warning, too! Or just a package of mixed nuts... "This product may or may not contain nuts." What am I paying for if it doesn't contain nuts??!!

Well, the fact that you actually saw them, means the warning labels work ! It just acts as a sort of protection for the Companies producing them. So, to users like us we find it stupid, to the companies its only the smart thing to do. Cheers

I understand why the company does it. It's just I don't understand why the need is there to begin with - why do we have to be such a sue happy country whom does not want to take responsibility for our actions.

Ya they are stupid . But as you know there are alot of stupid people in this world and at a blink of an eye try to sue the companies because they wernt warned. The supidest one i saw was peanut warning as well.
