Okay I am beyond baffled at this point! Why are some ppl making such a big deal over their star number?? I mean sure I liked being a 10/Blue star and sure its a drag that I dropped to a 9/Red star but I'm certainly not crying or whining about it ya know! I mean am I missing something here? What IS the tragedy of having your star rating drop? I dont get it..I really dont...bottomline IMO is at the end of the day so long as I've posted quality posts, enjoyed my daily visits and had some great conversation...THEN WHO CARES!! Would I like it if my star dropped even more? no of course not but I'm still getting PAID! I'm still ENJOYING myself...so why cry about it?!
What am I missing when it comes to this whole star thing that ppl who's numbers drop are gtting downright bitter about it?...

I suppose it just depends how much you enjoy accomplishing things. I would love to get to a 10 star jsut for the sense of achievment.
I think maybe some people do seem a little bit insecure about the quality of their discussions so take it all a littel bot too seriously.
Don't waste your time or energy on these people because theyw ill just bring you down.

Yepp.. when people get 10 star, they will get a bit happiness of achieving something. Raven, i agree with you.. rating is not such a huge deal. Im in mylot coz im happy reading posts and posting comments, not becoz of my rating. ^^

I completely agree with you! I don't see what the big deal is. I mean, I dropped down from a 10 to a 9 as well and I really don't care either. I think it's silly that people get so worked up about it. Now, I could see if you went from a 10 to 1, that would be rather upsetting. But going down one or two points really isn't going to make a difference!

ya knwo that is a really interesting point! yet as logical as that sounds and is probably the case (considering i can think of a couple ppl right off the bat who i imagine are like that from here) it still makes no sense to me LOL it's the INTERNET for crying out loud!

I don't really care either. I have a tendency to respond to controversial issues that I feel strongly about. Most of these issues have someone posting who has a clique. So if I post my mind and my star rating drops after posting to the "clique" I feel like I am doing my posts right. If they are going to negative rate me because they don't agree, my opinion must scare them somehow. I would like to see a 10, I've been 9 for so long, but if it never happens, se la vie.

*nods* I think it's a silly thing to get upset over. Obviously if your star dropped someone rated you poorly, but since you have know way of knowing who or why, I think it's silly to worry about it. If you go back and read your posts and realized you said something you shouldn't have, or that you might have come off as rude in some way, then you can learn from that. And if, after reading your posts, you can't figure out what happened, then obviously someone just chose to give you a - for reasons of their own, and there's nothing you can do about that. If you are proud of what you have written and you have enjoyed yourself, then is it really that big a deal?
I suppose it's easy for me to say I don't care since I have a 10, but honestly it's not that big a deal to me. I am friends with people who have various star ratings, many of whom I think deserve better than they have. So if I can realize that about them, then I think others would also be able to see value in me even if my rating were different.

hehe, well yesterday I was a 10 (97) came on this morning and I was a 9 (94) and then just now 9 (91)
now I'm not upset by this, more curious.
wonder what I've been saying that's getting peoples backs up.
there's another site I use, which had a star system where you could be rated up to 5 stars.
I was always a 4. which I took to mean, I'm opinionated, I say what I mean, if someone is wrong, I'll tell them I think they're wrong (politely of course) and I don't think exactly the same as everyone else. I took my 4 stars to mean that I am who I am, and I don't comprimise that.

Yea i get more curious than anything too..and with not being able to track it (who has neg. rated you etc) then trying to even figure it out (who you've rubbed the wrong way) is absolutely pointless ya knwo LOL not to mention you can rate someone WITHOUT having to even post in the thread which is a tad screwy LOL
and I agree...the ppl who have lower stars but excellent posts are the ones who speak their mind without walking on eggshells...

Yeah, I think this is ridiculous. It's not really a big deal at all. I mean...it's nice, sure, but I just come here to chat...I don't care what my star is...it's getting to be almost like the Top 8 in Myspace, where if you're not at the most, you flip out, where it's not a really big deal at all.

I started a discussion about the star rating my discussion was deleted I got alot of replys about it. and they deleted it. I still say it makes you feel like you are being graded. Now I want to see if they delete your discussion about the stars. if they don't I have a problem with Mylot?

I agree with you. I don't care much for my star rating either. I don't want to see it drop real low but I'm not gonna cry about it if it does. We still get paid. And I know my friends still love me :)

I decided a few days ago when I was responding to a discussion about the "stars" I was not going to pay any attention to them any more. WHY because of the 2 responses above mine one had a 10 blue star reputation 95/100% and the 1 above that had a 9 red star reputation 95/100%. Go Figure!!! It doesn't make sense!

Oh, my stars...LOL...it does seem a bit frenzied around here at times when the star numbers and colors head the "worng way"...I haven't experienced it yet..but certain it will happen and I hope I'm stable enough to go on...LOL...I think like you...if I have quality posts, good conversation and found some interesting information..I'm an okey-dokey happy camper!!!

Isn't that what we're here for? To have conversation? Who cares about stars?
As you say, you know when you are making quality comments and discussions.
Anyway, star ratings come about from the users on the website, not by anybody in authority, so people can be kind and people can be nasty, and some people are just oblivious.
I say don't worry about it. There's no point in internet anger because it doesn't actually exist. I'm just content with discussing and sitting back while listening to my 1950's radio station.

I just got a to 10 star (95/100) and I think it's cool. The whole reason I like isn't because then people like me, it's because people like what I write... And being that I am trying to be a writer, it feels pretty good to know people are enjoying reading what I am writng. It's the same as getting a 'Best Response'. It feels good to know that the discussion starter liked what i had written.

yeah, you're absolutely right.. the star rating things are just a bonus.. actually, the pay is just a bonus too.. as long as you enjoy with what you are doing, and you pick up great conversations from logging on, that's what's important, right? :D and you know what, i don't know where i can find me star.. hehehehe.. funny, but maybe because i don't care about it.. :D

i am not really concerned about my star rating. i believe that you get paid the same amount no matter what your rating is. so what is the point in even having them.

People make a star rating a big deal because it speaks of our reputation in the community and it's only natural to have that desire to excel. However, when the rating system is subject to abuse by other rogue users, then that's the time, the rating system loses it's credibility. Mylot issued an alert that this can not happen because safeguards are in place. I hope they can monitor everything. I've been trying hard to regain my 10 by posting good responses but nothing is happening so I'am beginning to wonder, are we much better off in the old system where there was not star rating feature. It causes frustrations and disappointments specially to those who are
trying their best to have a good reputation in the community.

Hi ravenladyj, I admit that I went a little frenzy the first time my star dropped from 10 to 9. But I didn't dare post a thread about it. I just try to work doubly hard and give more sensible responses. The second time that my star dropped to 9 again, I was cool with it. I guess for most of the users here, they really prided themselves with their works. Along the way, I learned to get use to the ways of mylot. It doesn't bother me anymore what color my star rating will be. I think I had aged 10 years since joining mylot...LOL!

I don't quite get the whole fuss about it. They're a cute little thing, a nice indicator of what the myLot'ers are thinking of your posts, but they're not a big deal at all! Sure, I like checking mine from time to time, just to see how I'm doing... I just see a higher star as maybe you're taking the time to produce quality posts. However, it's probably nowhere close to a perfect system, so who cares, really? Just have fun!
