What ever happen to the simply easter present

Kids get presents at Easter now? When did that start? When I was younger, all we got (or expected) was easter eggs and some candy, like a chocolate rabbit or something. Maybe a little stuffed rabbit in a basket, if we were feeling flush with money that year, but that was it. I think stores are using every opportunity they can to turn every holidy into a "gift-giving" holiday, so they can sell more stuff. It's too bad, all the preoccupation with presents takes away from the real meaning of whatever the holiday is really supposed to be comemorating.
