When you go out with your partner, is it imp 4 the guy to shell out cash?

The first date I had with my husband he insisting on paying for everything no matter how much I wanted to contribute, the first few dates after that too he insisted on picking up the bill till I said I felt uncomfortable with that, he started letting me pay some of the time and him the other times (we've never split a bill though LOL). Since we've been married we just go out and one or other of us picks up the bill. I hate it when you go to a restaurant though and you ask for the bill and they assume the man is going to pay and when I take the bill and hand over my credit card they look at my husband like "hey why you letting the lady pay?" LOL Basically it should be down to individuals how they feel about it, in this day and age some women earn more money than men so why shouldn't they pick up the bill more often than the man? :)
