Dollar Coins

Why does the US government keep coming out with dollar coins? I mean, I realize that some people keep them to collect them, but they drive me nuts! It doesn't matter if they color them gold, or make the sides smooth, I always get them confused with quarters. My husband won't even carry them, he hates carrying change. I wish we could go to an all paper system & do away with coins altogether. If you live in a different country, what kind of money do you have? If you live in the US, does having to deal with change bug you?

I understand your problem with the dollar coins, as when I use them at the grocery store the checker thinks they are quarters. She didn't know where to put them in her cash drawer, as there wasn't a place for them. The post office gives them to me in change when I buy postage stamps in their machine. It would be better, if they gave me quarters.
The only positive reason to have dollar coins is so people can collect them. This is good for the economy, as people are spending money for them that they might not spend on anything else. I have several friends that do collect them.
