In this society we are stressing every single day to obtain in the "norms" of the way people before us say it should be. Are we letting the norms in our society to get way out of hand? Is this why the world is so cold? Becuase everyone should be like they say, after trying make everyone happy for so long you eventually lose your self worth and forget that you are entitled to happiness. Its the people who are unhappy with their own lives that try to tell us how to live our lives because they feel that we are the reason they are unhappy. Its like going to work everyday, you got to be there on time, not ten minutes late or you have to stress about getting fired. In reality, that ten minutes does not even matter, especially when you make it up at the end of the day. But then why do they care so much. Why are managers and supervisors entitled to treating everyone like dirt if they want? Not all do, but the ones that are rude are over the board rude and why do they get away with that when you cant even get away with being ten minutes late, meanwhile the supervisor is an hour late.

I truly think people in general has lost the true meaning of happiness... these days more people beleive material pocessions are far more greater than family... changing each norm, then changes ones values... but the norm is so corrupted... i don't know if that is a good thing or not because every culutre or person has their own view of what the norm is... which makes it hard I guess if we all had the same norm we would all be conformist... and in that case there would be no conflict to bring on change

In that view then the norms are useful so that we can have something to argue or agree to.

You know, I was thinking about something similar to this when I started a discussion about my "not being allowed to have friends". It seems that everyone wants to tell us how to live our lives, even though what makes us happy and what makes them happy can be very different things. There are extreme cases in which I would speak out against something someone is doing (abuse and such) but in general I believe that if people are happy with their lives that's the important part. I used to wish to be more "normal" a lot. Now I know better. =)

Yes abuse, cheating, and stealing are agreeably out of the norms. But certain everyday situations arent worth the stress. Thanks so much lecanis.

I don't know if you are trying to tackle topic about happiness or you want to stress out that your supervisor is getting mad when you are 10 minutes late while in the other end she/he do one hour. Well back to original topic, sometimes we feel like people and situations around ourselves demand everything for us to walk in their way of finding happiness where in truth like you said its making spaces more narrow for us to breath. But some of this rule are not only formed to suppress us from what you called happiness but to make us responsible in a particular thing that needs it. Like being late in workplace.
