Body building vs cardio

What is the best way to lose weight and tone up? I have heard body builders say weights produce a much better and longer lasting result than cardio. I have heard other people say that weight lifting will help rev up your resting metabolism but it's the cardio that burns the fat. I've tried every diet for the last 20 years and done nothing but gain weight. I got divorced and dropped 30 pounds in two months! why? Because I wasn't eating much. So, is the key to losing weight eating very little? Someone help me out here. My physical appearance is that of a pear. I have more weight on my hips, thighs and stomach and less up top. In fact, I have great arms and shoulders and back that tone up really easily but from the waist down I look fat. Mostly my hips, stomach and thighs because my calfs are nice and toned from running. I want to lose all the fat around my mid section and tone up the rest. My longer goal is to actually get into body building. I don't want to get big, but I want to be able to flex and look like I work out. Any suggestions?

I think that the best way to lose weight is cardio. My husband tried to lose weight with body building and it just didn't happen. His muscles got bigger of course but he never got rid of his belly. Then he started doing cardio regularly and stopped eating junk food and now his belly disapeared. Now he is doing both cardio and bodybuilding and he looks really good. Before with his big belly, no one can notice his muscles, all you notice is his big belly.

That happened to my ex-husband too years ago when we were exercising. He just got bigger and then couldn't fit in his suite jackets. Right now I'm doing both. I alternate days of cardio and weights.

i'd prefer cardio activities for weight loss. body building is great for shaping up the body
