Here in SC there's a new bill proposed to require women to view a pre abortion ultra sound picture I think it's a good idea What's your opinion? This is the story as reported by fox news: COLUMBIA, S.C. A bill requiring women seeking abortions to first review ultrasound images of their fetuses has now moved to the South Carolina Senate. The legislation cleared the House today after a routine third reading following a contentious and emotional debate yesterday. Some states make ultrasound images available to women before an abortion, but South Carolina would be the first to require women to view the pictures. The proposal now heads to a Senate panel made up largely of supporters. Republicans have a 26-20 majority in that body. Committee Chairman Mike Fair says he expects the measure to pass after some changes, which could include exempting victims of rape or incest. The House defeated that idea in its bill.

Hey LKo12 |:D I think the affect it would have on an incest victim could be negative & one would hope that provisions would be made for situations like those. I don't understand how a man can do time in prison for the murder of an unborn child & yet in office abortions are not considered murder-I believe abortion is murder-that's why I think this is a good thing & this is coming from someone who had an abortion. I just feel abortion should be reserved for situations like incest victims otherwise it's all wrong. Thanks LKo for giving your honest opinion I appreciate it +'s 2 U |:)

The reason why people go to prison for the murder of an unborn child is due to the age of gestation of the fetus. Usually around 6-7 months. If the mother is murdered or attempted murder at that time, the charge is double as the fetus is at a viable point in development. However, legal abortions occur solely in the first trimester. At that point, the fetus is not concidered viable and is therefore expendable. I'm very sorry that you regret your abortion, but not everyone does. There is a very nice website http://www.imnotsorry.net you should look at.

The more I think about this, the more rediculous I think it is. It's just another pro-life conservative ploy to inject one more attempt at emotioanl blackmail to try to guilt a woman out of getting an abortion, rather than support and understanding during what is commonly already a difficult time for a woman. It seems pro-lifers just don't understand that unwanted pregnancy really means unwanted pregnancy and leave it at that. Too often unwanted pregnany and unwanted parenthood get confused. Well, adoption would be great if they just didn't want to take care of the thing, unfortunately, that's not the case too often. I'm so sick of the "There are so many infertile couple who want children so badly". Well, if they wanted them so badly, then they should have already adopted one of the hundreds of thousands of children already in the system. I'm not going to be an incubator for some uppity couple who only wants a pretty white newborn.

I think you have made a valid point about the children already in the system ppl need to get out there & promote these children like wendy's does there are commercials here w/ short profiles of children waiting for a family. I must admit one couple I talked w/ were that uppity white yuppy type & they did not get the joy of raising my child but w/ efforts on a wonderful lawyers part we found a couple who wasn't interested in the fact that I couldn't tell them who the baby's father was(knowing what ethnicity the child was didn't matter) they were down to earth we became friends during my pregnancy & they have a wonderful son now thanks to me-now, if I had chose to abort that unwanted pregnancy we all would have lost.

Thanks. BUt yeah, about the orphan/foster kids. I live in Vegas and there are so so so many commercials for a local program called A Welcome Home. They try to get as many local celebrities as possible and they show them as often as possible, but there are still hundreds of orphans in Vegas alone. It's rediculous.

Who would come up with such and idea? How horrible. I am not for abortions, but I am not for forcing this on anyone.

I think that that is a good idea. They also need to get counsling before hand to let them know that there ARE other alternatives to abortion. There are too many families that want kids and can't have them that would love to get an unwanted baby. There are too many people now a days that see abortion as a last ditch birth control method.

there was an update to this I saw on the news yesterday & that is the women would not be required to look which I think is fair & I'm in total agreement about adoption as the better alternative b/c I have experienced both & my heart breaks more over the child's life that I terminated than the 2 children I placed w/ adoptive families +'s 2 U

Honestly I think it is a good idea. However, I would have an exclusion for victims of rape or a situation such as that. I had an abortion a very long time ago. My doctor said either I or the baby wouldn't make it. I had been pregnant 6 times and I only carried to term with one. I had a tubal pregnancy and my tube ruptured. I had to make a tough decision. I decided that I couldn't go through with another miscarriage, or tubal pregnancy or preterm birth. The strain on my body was just too much and I had a baby already to take care of. I was given the option to see the ultrasound or to not see it. I chose to see it. I was heart broken, but I think I made the right decision in my case. I was already spotting lightly, so I knew that the chances of me carrying to term were unlikely and I was going through a very nasty divorce at the time. I think that it is still a good idea and I would vote for it.

This sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. It is an attempt to attach morality to what is still considered a medical procedure. Will they order people who are going to undergo open heart surgery to view their heart before the operation? The law simply means anyone who thinks they might react to the picture will go to another state and avoid this silly confrontation. What is the next step? Forcing her eyes open (ala Clockwork Orange) to view the image? I can't see it holding up under a legal challenge.

sacrificial I've learned that you have no children-interesting. If you haven't experienced parenthood, pregnancy or the loss of a child then maybe you should think about minimizing your opinion on this issue. I hope for your sake you get your wish & never have any babies. I also find it interesting that you come from an area that is pro-life. I appreciate your responses +'s

I was only stating that for your sake I hope you don't get pregnant I was trying state that your opinion is so strong on this subject yet you have no children nor do you admit to ever being pregnant-you can NEVER say "I would or WOULD NEVER do such-in-such" until you're there walking in those shoes. I always said I would never do both of the choices I made for those prenancies & still when the time came I felt it was the thing to do.So,how can you so strongly be against this option being available to prenant women when you never have been pregnant? +'s chickie ;)

I don't care either way, but I am pretty sure that many girls are already set in their ways before they go and get the abortion. If someone REALLY wants an abortion I am not sure if the ultrasound would make a difference or not. I'm sure it would make a difference if someone was not sure if they wanted it or not, though.
