The easiest way to do this is get your cat used to having her feet messed with. I'm very hands on with my cats, so they tolerate almost anything I do to them. If your aren't, then start messing with their feet regularly until they get used to it and don't mind. (Like they say when you want to brush your pet's teeth. Put your fingers in their mouth regularly until they get used to it. Kinda wierd, but it works) I also tend to do nail clipping when they are asleep (Only because they are used to me touching them in their sleep and trust me unconditionally). Give their foot a gentle squeeze to expose the nail and snip the tip. If you cut the quick, it hurts and may make them less interested in letting you do it next time so be careful. Sometimes I can only get a few nails at a time, then get the others later. Don't ignore your cat when she's had enough. You MUST keep this experience from becoming negative. If she wants to leave and you force her to stay, she'll remember that. If you sit on her to keep her still, I doubt you'll EVER have luck with clipping her in the future. Act like it's a simple thing, talk to her, pet her, then quickly snip off a nail. If she didn't mind, do another. If she minded a bit, pet her and talk to her. See if she's willing to let you continue. Let her decide when she's had enough. Missing a nail or two is better than causing negative feelings that will make things more dificult in the future.

Out of all of the responses yours I find the most informative. Yes everyone has the same idea, but I like your approach, I usually talk to our cats like there the children. So If and when I will definitely use your approach! Until then I'll let the cats claw the trim! Have a great day! Peace, FranMc

I didn't even think to do it while they are sleeping! I used to do that when my daughter was a baby (into the toddler years). She was used to me touching her and didn't jerk away. I'm sure cats think the same way... Oh just Momma touchin me. That is great advice ChaJudLeoBit!

Thanks, it's always worked for me. I have a cat who likes to sleep on my pillow and knead my head. It isn't very pleasant if his claws aren't clipped. But when they are, it feels like a scalp massage.

The best bet, if you have never done it before, would be to go to the vets and ask them to do it and show you the right way. It may seem like an unnecessary expense, but you can learn how to do it yourself for the next time.
Most cats are easy enough, because they claws are clear so you can see the vein. As long as you can control them, you should have no problems. The most important thing is to remain calm... the more tense you are, the more anxious they are. The second most important thing is to identify the quick and don't cut too close to it. If you do, it will bleed, so have styptic powder or styptic pencil handy.
Here is a website that should help... it even shows the quick for you.
Good luck!

I also forgot to add, you don't really need to go to the store and buy the clippers, you can use your own fingernail scissors or clippers. But if you do buy, there are a few different types to choose from; the guillotine like ones, the basic clippers and claw scissors. I personally like the scissors best. The guillitine ones are sometimes hard to slip around the claw and the basic clippers crush more than they cut.

I have done this myself with just a pair of finger nail clippers. Just be careful not to clip too high. I have always just clip it before it starts to widen out too much. Don't worry they will have it sharp again before you know it!
If you are worried about doing this I would go ahead and take the advice above and have the vet show you how to do it.

If you're nervous take them to the groomer. It's like 10 bucks or something.
You clip them right above the white line(quik)..If you cut to far down they will bleed.
