My wife and I have a beautiful young son and have always decided 1 child was enough. My wife has just been told she can no longer use any form of contraceptive. Because we aren't having any more kids, permanent contraception seems to be the way to go. However, my wife is younger than me so it won't be her having the snip! It's been over 30 years since I was in hospital, and I have to say the thought of going in and having the job done concerns me more than a little. I know it's just a psychological thing and once I get my head around it, I should be ok. Any comments or thoughts from other blokes who've had a vasectomy, or from their wives?

Those things are done as outpatient surgery usually. You shouldn't be down for more than a day or two-tops. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for that, if I don't have to spend much time in hospital, few days taking it easy at home should be cool!

I am currently 7 months pregnant and this is something that has been discussed in our house a lot here recently. I am having to have a c-section again, this is baby number 4, c-section number 3, so I will just have the tubal done while the got me open, however my OB/GYN said that if there are any complications that prevent him from being able to perform the tubal that he would prefer that my husband have the vasectomy rather than opening me up again in a few months. The vasectomy can be easily done and is usually outpatient taking only a day or so recovery. A tubal requires actual inpatient surgery and at least 2 weeks recovery. You are a brave man and just know that you are going to save your wife a world of pain!

Thanks, that is the most important reason, my darling wife has been through enough crap with her hormones.
