Do you post counter-comments on the discussions started by you?

I have seen many members complaining that their replies are not commented upon. I make it a point to post my comments on each and every reply I receive in response to my discussions. I have rarely seen that a member who replied to my discussion commenting on my comments (except saying thanks). I wish that discussion would be more useful and interesting if my friends on mylot and other members post their counter-comments on my comments, wherever possible. I love to read counter comments on the comment which I post. What do you think about this? What is your opinion? Do you favour counter comments and so on ...... so as to make the dicussions more interesting, as long as it is possible to continue the discussion. Please share your experiences, thoughts and views on this. Thanks in advance.

Yes, everyone does this. Except maybe for the newbies. I think the veteran mylotians here always reply to the threads posted by other members. It's important to keep your discussions updated. I'm not sure if you get paid for it or not but it's sure great for the rankings!

I try to reply back. If I don't have anything new to add or discuss I don't. I think it helps bring a topic alive. I see what they mean more. I also get to know who will reply and who won't. This is a great topic. You get a + for it.

It happens i agree. We will all feel nice if our responses are commented by the owner of the discussion. I go to Discussions I responded and open each and every discussion i responded to previous day to see whether i received a comment. Sometimes i have some times not. But i cant be unhappy because, no body can reply to each and every respond they get. Even i dont do it. I only reply to the posts that needs my comments or if i have something to add to that. I simply dont give "thank you" responses cos its not worth and not practical. Plus, if i get only a thank you respond, i will not feel anything more than what i would feel when i dont receive a reply at all. These are discussions and we share ideas. But, i always read all the responses i get and rate them accordingly. Anybody can be sure of getting most probably a plus rating and very rarely a minus rating from me, if they answer my discussions, even though they will not get a reply from me. I hope to receive your comments on my above idea. Thanks and have a nice day.

Sherinkek, As stated above.....my purpose of starting this discussion was that I am looking for those friend here on mylot who believe in discussing a topic, who believe in exchanging their views, comments and counter-comments and make a discussion useful and fruitful. No doubt that contents and topic of discussion also plays an important part in that, i.e. each discussion may not be continued after a certain point, but if a discussion can be continued through comments and counter-comments, I believe it should be. I would be happy to do that. I on my part try my best to continue a discussion....but if the respondent is not forthcoming....I become helpless. Nice to read your positive views (+) rated. Thanks.

I sometimes counter-comment. I try to go back and look at the "discussions I have replied to" section once a day and skim through the posts to see if the OPs commented on my response. If their comment leaves the way open for more discussion, I will usually write a return comment. I'm sure I miss some, but I at least try. It definatley makes it into a real "discussion" and not just an Q&A.

It is very nice to go back and forth to one another. In the beginning, when you do not have lots of friends and ratings ( ) next to your name, it is easier. As you increase in both, it gets harder and harder to keep up. Some people do not have enough time to spend on the puter, some puters are so slow, and other reasons. I have made a few posts about this. I know for me, I try very hard to reply to all and recheck. But, I get over 1500 a day, and it is almost impossible now. If I skip on day on here, I am so far behind, I cannot catch up. So, as long as you can, try to correspond and enjoy one another with good posts. Always rate everyone too. I will be rating you a +++ for your posting. Also, be sure to give someone the "best response" that took the time to respond to you. Bless you, and have a nice time here. There are lots of really nice people here you will become friends with. Blessings, M&M

I do comment on some but not all. It is very hard to do if you have 100 of responses. I think if we got paid more people would do it, but as it is we are doing this free. Not that it is all about money, but I do have a goal I try to meet each day and a schedule I try to keep. So, I am only able to maybe comment back to one per page, that way people know I have rated that whole page and did read the responses.

I usually leave comments on relies to my discussions - and frequently my friends will pop back and leave comments on the comments, creating a nice conversation. But you, the discussion owner, need to initiate this by leaving comments in the first place. If you don't, no one else will bother. I don't know if you are aware, but comemnts don't change the number after your name, but you do get paid for them.

I always respond to every response I get. Its just a little way to say thanks for reading my question and responding. I would feel rude if I didnt reply.

yes, i usually check my discussion to see if there is anyone who responded to them. And my notification is on that's why i can instantly check which discussion needs to be checked.

If I start a discussion, I make sure I at least reply - even if it is just to say thanks. Counter comments I do enjoy, and it's a nice way to make friends and enjoy views and opinions. I noticed one discussion just a day or so ago where someone was saying that Mylot is a discussion group, not a chat group and that some of these counter discussions were more like people just chatting and nothing to do with the discussion. I think with counter comments, we do need to be careful with what we're saying. If we exercise some common sense we should be okay

Personally, as I read responses to discussions, I will rate them and add comments if there I have something to say. If it turns into a real discussion with the other party responding, it would be great as that is the initial purpose mylot was for. Otherwise, I would acknowledge the response as I find it is plain courtesy just to thank them for their time. However, how many of us are in the dialogue at the same time. I just find it tough to have a chat discussion.

Yeah posting counter comments is a good practice since one can have a good idea and come up with new conclusions on the discussion topic. I do counter comment on the responses i recieve on my discussions only if i feel there is some thing to be shared or commented upon. most of the responces do recieve my counter comment and i do check regularly the discussions i reply and collect some good points on what others have replied to the same discussion. so lets all do practice this method of posting counter comments on the responces which we recieve. This is a nice discussion. :-)

of course i do...everytime i started a discussion, i read every response and i make it a point that i make my comment as my appreciation. i myself want that...whenever i answer to a discussion, i'm always waiting for the comment, if i see nothing..i get disappointed...that make me feel bad.

yes i do,juts not like you that you tend to comment on EVERY response you get... wow, thats way a lot of work- But i do make an effort to occasionally check the discussions that i started and when i see a comment that strikes me - i do reply. But sometimes, since not all users read the entire length of discussion and they just go directly to answering the question, sometimes i dont comment anymore specially if the response was asking the same question that was asked from one of the previos replies...i think its really nice to counter comment on the responses, makes the respondents more a part of your discussion as well. And sometimes the reason i dotn get to give much comment is i run out of time to do so- i usually post my new discussion topics before i log off- thats usually the last thing i do here on mylot so thats why i dont get to comment as soon as i can. =)

I try to respond to my posts. If I feel that I start saying the same things in every comment, then I don't. If I feel that I don't have anything new to add or question the poster about, I don't.

Thanks for your observation and suggestion on counter-comments. I agree with you on the need for such counter-comments for the enrichment of a particular topic. However, there is too little time and there are too many equally important other topics waiting to be addressed. Indeed, if you consider the large number of new discussions that have been lying lonely for a long time without anybody commenting on them, you will realise that there is hardly any room for flogging a topic for ever. The only consolation, I think, is that one can always expect to have a revisit to the discussion in future if the topic in question is important and current.
