Is it a myth or proven that a chicken soup could cure the common colds? Any testimony?

Chicken soup has been prescribed as a form of cure for the common cold since the time of Ancient Egypt as described by food historians. In 2000, a group of doctors from the Unversity of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha performed a clinical trial where chicken soup was used to cure the common cold. They found out that the mixture of vitamins and minerals found in traditional chicken soups can decrease the activity of certain white blood cells and that it may have an anti-inflammatory effect that could lead to a temporary relief of the said symptom. Still it is not the best solution for your common cold. As it is a virus and will generally disappear in a few days, the best treatment is palliative. Drink lots of fluids particularly those with lots of vitamin C. Have a good bed rest and eat healthy. Those cold medications available are all for temporary relief of the symptoms (clogged nose, runny nose etc).

It is a myth. The soup might make you feel better, but there is no cure for the common cold. It is a viral infection, just like AIDS is.

i think it has been proven somehow that chicken soup has curative effects on common colds. it's in the composition of the soup, mainly the vitamins and nutrients, which might have the "ways" to kill the viruses that caused the common colds.
