Have a bad experience with joomla?

When i try joomla in my local computer, i have bad experience with picture gallery (RS Gallery). When i install it, success. But i am stuck because it cannot thumbnail the pictures because there is no GD2 in my local computer. Until now, i am stil confuse about GD2.
Do you have another bad experience with joomla?

Sometimes I think my entire experience with joomla is bad. I've had to install so many components and modules to make it into what I need, I can't even remember them all. Everything I try to do takes me three times as long as I think it will. However, I'm a complete newbie at it, so it may just be my problem.
I know this is an old discussion, but did you ever get your gallery issues working? I used zoom media gallery and it seems to work well. But that wasn't on my local computer.

Try to install joomla and download the new version (stable).
Download XAMPP for the set of localhost connections.
Visit there site for XAMPP server:
www.apachefriends.org./en/xampp.html
Visit there site for Joomla:
www.joomla.org/dowmload.html
Please let me know if there's a problem.

I often encounter with content writing, when I edit it and save, all is gone..usually happen with JFK Editor.
