i have a female basset hound and her name is Martha. they say basset hounds are child-friendly like Labrador retrievers, but Martha just have these moods swings and almost bit my 6-y.o. niece! my initial reaction was to hit Martha with a newspaper and sent her out to the garage. i didn't wanna do that but what should i do? she has to know that she did something terrible.

i have just the same problem! our pet casper is a japanese spitz and he growls at my 3 year old baby whenever she gets close to him. he doesn't bite, though, but it still scares me. he doesn't do the same to anyone else, just to my baby. I feel like he's kind of jealous about the attention she is being given. My fiance and I scold him whenever he starts growling at her and he stops. he's never bitten anyone before, but still i'm worried he might. my fiance says we will get rid of him the moment he makes the mistake of biting her, and i would feel sorry for him if that happens because he's just like one of our kids now..

Martha almost bit my fiance on his face while hugging her. since that day we sent her out to the garage. if ever the day comes that she bites really deep, though just the thought of it pains me, we'll give her away. :(
