How old were you When you Started Driving a Car?

I was actually 17 when I got my drivers license. When I got my license, there was no such thing as drivers education class. That actually started a year after I got my license. My younger brother was next and he had to take the class. I guess I waited so long because my father was so nervous and didn't want me to drive, I had to plead and beg to get my license. Finally he gave in...lol How old were you when you started driving? Did you have to take any classes prior to getting your Driver's license? Did you pass on the first try? Any experiences you would like to share, please do.

I started driving legally when I was 16, but before that I was driving around when I was 12. We had a house on property that was leased from the government so no normal rules applied.

I got mine when I was 17 too; I took the book classes in school, and then I took the private lessons. I think I passed the first time.... but when moving back to nj, and to nc, I had to retake the behind the wheel test, and they were so much harder! I think in nj it took me like 5 times to pass the written test.... I think kids should be @ 18 when they start driving- 16 is way way too young.

I was quite old when I start to take driving lessons. I took me about 3 month to take it and other 3 months to get the license in home. I also started to take the license for motorbikes but quit because I'm quite scared of driving such an dangerous transportation.

I understand that. I know what you mean, It took me 17 to finally say, I'm tired of riding with everyone else or asking someone to take me somewhere

I am 27 in a couple of months and still don't have my license. I got my learners when I was 21 and then they just expired and haven't gone for it again, but I think I will this year sometime. I have more confidence now, but even when I get my lisence I doubt I will drive very often. I just not that fond of it. My husband and son go most places together so my husband drives, or I go with friends. It would be nice to have it though just so I didn't need a ride from friends if we all going somewhere, and I could sometimes be the one who takes us places. We live in a small country town so in town I walk everywhere.

I was 18 before I got my liscense. Funny thing was I had driver's ed in high school and we had to drive in the summer with our teacher. I had never been behind the wheel of a car and had no clue what I was doing. I did pass but my parents didn't want me driving. I think I was the only high school senior who had to ride the bus to school everyday. They finally let me get it when I turned 18. My birthday is in January so I got it before I graduated. I still couldn't drive to school. I wasn't allowed to drive until I got my own car. I didn't get that until I was 19. They said I liked to party to much and I was a smoker so that's why I couldn't drive. Right. My younger siblings all got cars at the age of 16 and got to drive all time. It really bites being the oldest. I do thank them though because I think I'm a better driver then my siblings. I'm in favor of all the states changing the age limit on driving. I think they should all wait until they are 18. My daughters say no way.

Yes, I understand that, it's true, some kids are really anxious sometimes more anxious than we know. I told my son don't even start asking at 15..lol...He has to show me some serious responsibility

Wow! You're lucky you didn't have to take the class! I had to take the class, it was easy but I hated the instructor. :P She wasn't the nicest of people, I'll say that much. Anyway, I started driving with a permit and took the class at 17, but I didn't get my license until I was almost 19. I didn't really have any reason to drive until then. I took the bus or my mom gave me a ride to and from school every day. I only started driving when I started college. I did pass on my first try with a 90%! I was really excited. I only got marked down on my parallel parking (which I still have issues with!) and a couple other minor things.

I got my temps at 15.5. Passed on the first try. Got my license the day after I turned 16. I took drivers ed for about 3 months, and my parents made me drive everywhere, so I had lots of practice.

I think I was 19 or 20 when I got mine , but I was sriving before that.Just that, it was without a license and with someone sitting next to me.I first drove a car when I was just ten, lol. It was a family vacation and we were touring the city in a car.My dad and mom were sleeping on the back seat and I was with my friend, the driver,on the front seat.It was around 2 pm and realising that my parents were sleeping ,he asked me if I would like to take the steering. How could I let go off such a golden oppurtunity. So, I sat right next to him and was controlling the steering while he was in charge of the accelerator and brakes. When my dad learned about it during the morning ,he was shocked !lol

i was 18 when i got my drivers license.here in india u have to pass a test to get a license you.you have to be 18 or above to get a license.earlier there was no such a rule that you have to pass the test but now its imperative that you get through the test.in this test you to answer certain questions through an electronic pad.there are 10 questions asked and you must answer atleast 6 correct.i answered 9 correct. i am the youngest one so all my family got the license without any test unfortunately i had to give the test.

Hi there mzbubblie, I love your dog btw. I have a small Yorkie too and she is so beautiful just like yours! I started driving when I was sixteen. With a license anyway. I drove long before that as we had an old willies jeep that we got to take out and 4x4 in off road on our property. Yes I took the defensive driving course and I did pass my test on the first try. It was rather stressful to say the least. Nervous with the instructor in the passenger seat, sweating as I tried so hard not to screw up! I can understand you fathers nervousness. It can be treacherous driving in some areas. We always must be on the look out for other drivers who are not so good at it! That is exactly why I don't drive when there is a ton of snow out. Other drivers could be a costly problem. So that's my two cents. I was so glad to have gotten my license so to be able to actually drive! Yippie.

I started driving on my 17th birthday. Fortunately for me my dad had been a driving instructor in the army, so I didn't have to pay for lessons and I got to drive every day and passed my driving test by my 18th birthday. That was way back in the 60s and the roads were much quieter then here in the U.K. Not so much pleasure driving around today with so much traffic and it's getting expensive if you don't have a "green" car...
