I would like to start a discussion on the recent headline that Edwards still plans to run for president, despite the fact that his wife has fallen ill with a reoccurence of breast cancer.

I did not read anything in depth about it, but it seems rather cold to me, but then again I am not accquainted with either of them. The wife may have wanted him to continue with his efforts, and if that b the case then he is doing the right thing. There is in fact very little Mr Edwards can do about it, except support her recovery efforts and I'm sure he will do so, he may even be more attentive to her with the public eye on him. And since it is a reoccurance, maybe they both are aware of what the treatment will entail and know they can handle it as well as the political campaign.

I just know that if I was in his wife's position, I would say that I wanted my husband to keep running, but deep down I think I would want him by my side. I think it would be a good political move for him to step down in order to spend the possible short time he has left with this wife and re-run in 4 years. He has a very little chance of actually winning this election anyways, look who he's up against. I think he would gain a lot of integrity and it's the right thing for him to do - he should put it on the back burner and rerun in 4 years. He's young...

From what I heard on the news, he and his wife have talked about it, with their kids too, and they all agree that he should still campaign for the presidency. They said they have had hard times they got through together in the past, and this was another one of those hard times. She may be better off keeping active and doing things, better than just sitting there and thinking about cancer all the time, a positive attitude can help someone with cancer very much.
