Is Internet a necessary evil?

Is internet a necessary evil, something we can't do without? or is it an obsession an addiction that sucks you into the vortex of virtual text messages keeping you away from the important, real things in your life? Isn't life much easier and simpler without it? One day the world wide web will explode with the burden of so much information and we net junkies have had it. Its quite possible it will lead to a spate of suicides, affairs, divorces, crimes. people won't know what to do in their free( read productive office time)

I think that the Internet, like everything, can be used both in a positive and a negative way. Even though the Internet has turned into something of a way to physically isolate people, it has also allowed people around the world to connect in a way they couldn't before. Personally, I home school and take most of my classes online. Every week, I participate in five different online meetings, one for each class. In these classes, there are Americans, Canadians, and missionary kids all chatting and listening to a professor all at once. The internet also helps people to interact without racial or color prejudices. Most of the time, we do not know the color or race of the people we are talking with, but instead treat them as equals.

i dont think internet as evil 'coz internet is to connect and gather information from various points ..it was not developed for spreading viruses or all types of absurd things..the users make it evil..Internet is neccessary ...We can also say that days were there when there was no internet and still we used to continue..but when now we r habituated and need internet its neccessary

I think the internet can be used for good as well as evil. On one end we have the predators and ID theives. But then we have the chance to make money or even get rich in a legit way online as well as meet new people that will help us in business. Other than that the internet is the best thing that ever happened to me. I really love it.

Internet is something will is good in one way and also evil in many other ways. The good point is that it helps in finding the information and also in doing many a things which was not possible before. Revolution in many a ways. But the point is many are so addicted to it that they stop doing some routine things and depends on Internet for them. This would definitely lead the world into problem.

somehow yeah you are right. But on the other hand, We (people) are the only "brain" to just work this all things up.. We are the most responsible for this, its only depend on us on how we could handle this things.. Its really depend on us if we will let this internet things to lead or not to lead our life.

i very sternly beleive that life always has two facets to itself..it entirely depends on you which one to chooce.. for example if we say that internet is necessary..yes it is..if today we talk about our own jobs. on a personal perspective need to work most of the time depending on the internet facility of my organisation..the world is going global today..and internet is perhaps definitely an aid to this..talking about fun and socialising..internet lets us discuss our views,problems..almost every thought on a platter like mylot easily with peole from all around the globe.. to take the negatives..i also admit myself that i have been a net adict..when i first started to know about this awesome'ly huge platform to connect to people i would sit on the chatt..socialising perhaps more than i'd do my own other necessary works..an absolute wastage of my time an energy..making friends with people i have never known..and discussing about absolutely nothing. some people also sit online doing nothing but surfing only because they like to do it..forgetting time constraints to other important things in life.. i feel if every one of us prioritize our "to do's " in life..we'll definitely make the right and good use of everything in life. so choosing which side of life to be on is entirely on our own self..solutions cannot change life until we interpret them individually into our lives..thankyou!!

Interesting! The Internet is just another communication tool, we will have others once it is gone. I work in the ICT (information communcations technologies) and I see how the Internet has revolutionalized the economy, education, relationships, democracy, etc. however like I said it is used by people who crave interaction and that craving will not go away.

Well I go with the classical dialogue "Two sides of a coin", wat u say is true, Internet is a necessary evil, but its better we highlight the necessity rather than the evil, Its better to use it for the right purpose than increasing the ill effects

Every good thing is also an evil in some other perspective. When man invented clothes to keep himself more comfortable, he was weening away his natural resistance and immunity. The same goes with medicines. When he has invented vehicles his physical strength reduced and so on.

Internet is like electricity. Can be used for good or bad. Good means too good and bad means to the extreme. Any thing we can have access through internet whether education or hobby or knowledge. I heard that the twin towers blasters learnt plane operation by internet. Hence use the internet knife with care and enjoy the benefits.

Like everything in life I believe if you look for evil you will find evil if you look for good you will find good. I can look for so much evil on the internet I could spend days writing why no one should ever be allowed to see it. On the other hand I could look for the good and spend days writing about how it has changed so many peoples lives for the better. Its a form of knowledge and knowledge is power and its how we use power that makes us good or bad people.

The internet makes a lot of very useful things possible. The examples I'm giving here aren't "theoretical" -- this is stuff I do every single day that would be impossible without the internet: * I can work from home (legitimately) -- I develop code, submit it to the production server (using version control), test the same software on multiple machines and browsers, report and respond to issues, manage developers and their work, etc. * I can access my home computer from anywhere (securely) with secure shell. * I can communicate with friends and family no matter where I am so long as there's either a wired or wireless connection available or I've got my cell phone with me (it can be tethered to my laptop) without spending a penny on a per-minute or per-message basis. * I can get maps and directions to places I've never been, so I don't look like a complete goofball trying to find them. * I can spend less money and time driving around from store to store to comparison shop or find the best deal by just looking online to find what I need; I save money by buying commodity items online whenever possible. * I can work together with people around the world to build something cool (http://lcdproc.org/ is a project I started *ten years ago* that is *still* alive and kicking -- 100% free, too). My "productive office time" doesn't count as "free time" for me. I work when I'm supposed to be working. The internet is just one of the essential tools at my disposal.

I think that the internet should be used with moderation, if you keep on it for too long, you get addicted and when you have to come off it you get frustrated and annoyed with yourself. This shouln't happen to anyone

The internet has a mass amount of information, it is what information people want to access that is of concern. For children, the internet can be great to safely chat to friends, to browse educational sites for homework and learn new skills such as arts and crafts. At the same it also has its darker side, the problem is all down to people. Addiciton is purely a personal thing, no one forces aanyone else to access or go onto the internet, and people simply must learn a little self-control.

I think that to an extent the internet is necessary. All of my company's inner business is done by email and all of our improtant files are networked so that anyone in our group can use them even if we are in one of the off campus sites. I work overnights and to get my Masters degree I am taking online classes. I do manage to have time for email and other online activities as well so I do think that we do need the internet in many ways. It can also cause problems if not used correctly.

It is a necessary good; it allows for people from different cultures to make friendsl. It is necessary for work and for education. It is an asset and not a liability for the old, the disabled and the young. It allows us to communicate more effectively with other people.

no internet is not a evil thing. its just a medium. there are people who use it for productive purpose and others who use it for evil so i think it all depends on the user and we should not blame internet for what people do. the medium can be used for good or bad.

Anything can become an obsession-if we allow it. I spend quite a bit of time on the internet, but I do not let it interfere with the things that I need to get done. I try to budget my time so I can devote a little to many pursuits that I enjoy. That is the only way to go.
