Child care - how can I find a nanny, sitter, mother's helper JOB?

I've signed up and created a profile on several sites. I post frequently to craigslist. Without knowing many people in my area, how can I find a good job in this field? Also, how can I assure parents that I'm "one of the good ones" that will really provide safe and loving care?
Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

I would go to local churches to see if they know of any parents looking. Also it is always good to go to the chamber office in your town and let them know you are available for this type of thing. They may know of people that are also new to the community looking for the same thing. In some places they have a welcome packet they give to people that move into towns. Maybe you can put a flyer in their packets.

If there are bulletin boards in your town, put up notices. Let people know that you have references. Your references should be other people you have babysat for, but even if you have 0 real experience, you should have some friends that will vouch for you.
Also, you might try going around to groups and classes, like a karate class and offer to look after the children of moms who want to take the classes. The instructor will earn more because he can offer a service to parents, and you get your foot in the door.
