No Problem!! This Arabian mare is a true beauty. I am allowed to ride her but have to trade trail time for mucking out. My question to Mylot readers is how many paddocks would you muck out to ride this beauty for an hour? PS: I can brush her without mucking out.

I've gone to stables three/four times a week to feed/muck/etc without riding time in return, just to be around horses. I guess that doesn't help much... I would say, an hour of your work minimum for an hour to ride. A typical trail ride or lesson costs about $25 minimum, and a stable hand would get paid maybe $10 an hour or less - so two to three hours work is a reasonable trade for an hour to ride.

I'd say 2-4 hours of work, depending on what you have to do... feeding and haying a whole barn of horses is a lot of work and may take up to 40 mintues! Mucking out 10 stalls or so would be an all day thing! So it depends on how much you do, i say mucking out 3 stalls or so would be a fair trade! And if yo udon't have to muck, i'd say feeding grain and haying the barn (15 horses min.) would be a fair trade as well

I wolden't say 2-4 hourse for a 1 hour ride. I used to do all different kinds of barn chores to ride after our lessons stopped, but now I don't even have to do anything. : ) (Needless to say I have been riding at this barn for about 5 or 6 years now.) I still help with barn chores and things, though. It's a good way to help out and be around horses at the same time.
