Have you or someone you know ever seen a shrink? What for and did it help? I was seeing a shrink once after my nervous breakdown, didn't help at all. Twice a week for an hour I would go talk to a shrink and get a prescription to help with my nightmares (I never took them) It has bee three years now, and I am doing just fine. My mind and body just needed some rest.

My sister saw a Christian one a few times. She was having some issues. Thats how she found out she had A.D.D. she tested for it. Thats how I know I have it. I havent tested for but I know.
Anyways. She didnt like the shrink and didnt think she helped at all. She wouldnt advise it. She stated she could never be one either cause has enough problems as is.
So I'd never advice it but sometimes you gotta go especially if something emotional happened to mess you up.

hmmmm...interesting that you should take this view. I have attended two shrinks in the last 10+ years, not much they did or said really helped me at all to be honest. The second one a bit maybe, but certainly not the first. However, the medication they gave me did help!!

Yes and it was a waste of time. He basically told me that I was messed up because of my mom and than gave me medication that made me black out on a whole year of my life and do things that were completely out of my character. What a waste. $150 per visit and major problems after each one.

I have never went to a shrink, thought about it a few times but never did. People need to be very careful when going to shrinks, because they can end more screwed up than they were before. I work in the medical field and have had to deal with some psychiatrist/psychologist, and some of them have no idea what they are doing.

I didn't see a psychiatrist, but I saw a therapist. I did alot of talking and i ended up answering my own questions, so I quit going. I don't think he was effective. I felt like I was wasting my money. I think they can be effective if they are good at it. I think everyone has their own method of dealing with emotional issues. Like you many just needed to rest their mind and body and things are fine. Good for you and glad to hear you are back on top of things!

honestly yes i have and it was the best experience of my life.he has helped me on so many levels getting thru major childhood abuse issues then to know how to live life as a survivor..dealing with depression that sometimes lurks back.life decisions and then relationships..I still always know he is there as a sounding board when life gets a little overwhelming for me..he is an unbiased person that thinks only positive for me in this world thats a great thing

I went for several years to a therapist to talk about my feelings regarding my mother and our very dysfunctional relationship. It helped me a lot to just have someone that I could be very honest and frank with regarding how I felt about my mother and how she made/makes me feel. My therapist helped me realize that I had serious acceptance issues where my mother was concerned. I have actually gotten much better now that I know why I feel the way do and why I react to my mother the way I do sometimes. My relationship with my mother has gotten a bit better in some ways and in others it is worse than ever.
I liked my therapist. She realy helped me to become stronger where my mother was concerned. I still have problems with my mom, not like before.
