When you retire what will you do/or want to do with your spare time???

I hope to retire comfortably, by that I mean not scrimping and saving, just be able to live from day to day without any money worries or any worries for that matter. I would like to hopefully will be living in a location that I want to be in (near the beach) so I can take strolls along the beach, tend to a nice garden, take up a hobby like lawn bowls or something for a social outlet and just take life at a slow pace one day at a time. What are your dreams for retirement? have you thought about it at all?

If I have the ability I would like to do some traveling, go see those things that I find fascinating and maybe even find a nice island with an empty beach to live on...:}

Hello Wenfri! I am happy to know there are people like you who are still young at heart and loves to travel. Seem like getting old is not a problem as long as you are happy and enjoying life even if without that much money.

Yes well when I retire I should have enough money but I will need a bit more due to we are hoping if my husband is ok to go home to his island in the South Pacific. The pace of life there is much more relaxing and not so heavy like it is here. I would still be able to use my computer and earn a little bit more money and teach others how to use the computer.

We have given it some thought. We want to retire to either Skye or the northwest coast of Scotland. Everytime we go on vacation we visit places to see how we like them. I like the slow pace of island life, their closeness to the land. I just hope that doesn't change with all these new houses that are being built. I will still be writing as it is in my blood. I am forever the poet. We will do a lot of hiking as long as the legs will let us. I'm looking forward to having hubby all to myself.

Although I am not yet retired, I may as well be. The disability check takes care of the living expenses, but doesn't leave a lot of extra. I am trying to set up a residual income so that we will be able to enjoy my retirement and also to supplement the check I now get. The activities really won't change much as I am housebound, so my plans are to replace this aging pc and the TV. Other than maybe finding a different place to live that's about it.

I plan on doing a lot of traveling and volunteering. And maybe combining the two--there are 'volunteer vacations' where you can do things from helping build a school to helping with an archeological excavation.

I don't know anything abour retiring. I will be market gardening and tending to my critters on this 43 acres I think. I cannot imagine having the time to participate in frivolity. Spare time is something that I don't have right now and do not miss having nothing to do. I do think that when I am old and unable to move about much I might still garden on a small scale with help. Go to library and church rummage sales to visit maybe. That will be close to the end for me.

My husband and I are undecided about where we will retire. Possibly it will be at Penneshaw, a little town on Kangaroo Island. I own a small house there, & it has stunning views of the bay. The problem is, Kangaroo Island is only accessible by boat, and iof we want to see family regularly, this might not work. Failing the Penneshaw idea, we might retire at Port Elliot, a sleepy little town on the coast about one hour drive from Adelaide. My husband is about to turn 48, and he can't retire until he is 55 years. We are going to buy a caravan before then & do some travelling.

I'm only 21, but I'm already wanting to retire so I will go ahead and answer even though I'm nowhere near where I need to be to even start saving for my future... I want to move to Miami and paint all day every day. Sit around all day go out at night if I feel like it. Sleep all day if that's what I want to do.

I want to own a house by the time i retire so that i can take rest and be comfortable in my own house. I would like to go for a long vacation to some island and spend the time fishing and swimming. i would love to spend my time reading quality books thru out the day and have good home cooked meals which i can't afford now. I would also love to learn to play a musical instrument like a guitar or something.

Hi, I have thought of it in that I see my parents who are currently retired and what they are able to accomplish & the house that they can live in. Now to be fair, they worked liked dogs when we were younger & both parents always had a full-time business while my dad worked full-time & my mother worked part-time. Plus they neither smoked nor drank BUT There were extra expenses! We travelled home to my mom's home every other summer, my brother always went to summer camp, and my dad went traveling with an uncle every year. Plus we always had nice clothes--not designer but nicer ones. Overall, I hope to be able to travel a bit once I'm older but I hope to do that even now, so what we are trying to do is live quite fiscally responsible and see how that works!

The way things are going now, current estimation is that I will not retire until 94. Until then I work, if the Lord sustains my health. How much retirement is left after 94? Thanks for asking.

I'm still quite a few years away. But I would like to live my retirement out in comfort and in a little quiet house somehwere. I would love to travel and see the world first though, before I settle down in that little quiet house.

The thought of retirement would be a long way for me from here. But if I would like to retire then I would like to be with my family, my children and my grandsons. That would be very tough task but I would atleast stay on country side and would like to be with them on atleast the weekends. That would be absolute entertainment with music and some king of sport to be fit

Retire!!???? You have got to be kidding...I will never be able to retire because of all of the bills. I will be working the rest of my life. I think retirement is something that my parents generation have been able to achieve but my generation....there will not be many of us that can afford to quit working and hang out at the beach no matter how good that sounds. The cost of living is so much higher than it was 50 years ago. And medical costs....oh lets not even go there...I will just be on a total rant. Ok, I will be over in that corner of the room crying because now I am feeling a little down. Call me if you need me.

I havent really thought of this question yet but since I read it i thought of asking myself and here is my answer .. i would defintely like to live in a cosy place with my hubby with all possible aminieties around to help me have a hassle free cooking of cleaning .. i must have done enough of it all my life by then ... all means of electronic media for communicating to my kids who would be in different parts of the world .. a pet dog maybe .. i have never had to chance to have one .. and loads of shopping every sunday ;)

Though I am still far far away from my retirement, it is still worth of talking about it in sharing with you my early dream on my future retirement. I like the tropical places that I can swim; sun bathing through out most of the year; live on with a small pension and the regular rent from our second apartment. If possible, I can travel at least once a year with my husband.
