Why is "Religion" under the category of "Hobbies I enjoy"?

My religion and my faith are not a hobby to me. It is a part of my soul, my spirit, my life. Is this some selection that I made in my interests that caused this to come out like that or is Religion really under the category of Hobbies somewhere in myLot specifications? Does anyone else agree with me that this should be changed?

Before seeing your discussion, I had just posted the same question. "Why is Spirituality, Faith, and Religion categorized as a Hobby?" Pointing out that several community type environments like 'myLot' either fail to classify these essential topics due to a purposed segregation or elimination. Little-less classified as a hobby of all things ... I agree wholeheartedly that this needs to be addressed. I purposely will be posting more of these discussion within my own 'mylot page' and perhaps we can collectively see a change here!

I totally agree. Religion is not a hobby, it is a way of life, it is our beliefs, our faith. I don't understand why it's listed under hobbies.

IMHO whoever originally put it there was a little misled. As mentionned above, Life is also under hobbies. Maybe there should be a category called Life and Religion could be one of the choices under it.

Well "Life" also comes under the category of "Hobbies I enjoy" which I think is equally, if not even more bizarre. I've never really thought of life as a hobby!

I disagree with you. You are getting into semantics. The definition of hobby is as follows: hob·by (hob'e) n., pl. -bies. An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure. So unless your occupation is as a Preacher, Priest etc. then it is a hobby

Hmm. I don't think I would say I pursue my faith for pleasure. I pursue it for uplifting of my spirit and soul, and although on a base level this may define pleasure, I say it is far deeper and higher and wider than pleasure. Pleasure by definition would be temporary. Upbuilding of soul and spirit is much stronger and permanent.

If religion were about pleasure, that would make quite a bit of sense. In the end though, I am not a Christian because it feels good or I enjoy being one. I am a Christian because I can't deny the truth of the Bible and the awesomeness of God. It's like saying that believing the Earth is round is a hobby. It's not a hobby, it's truth.

lighten up any Religion worth its salt can be discussed on many levels if calling it a hooby makes you angry, how strong is your faith anyway, shaky maybe if you are sure of it, then nothing should shake it, right?

My faith is quite unshakeable. It would take me a full length book to tell you the history of all it has been put through. If anyone calls their faith a hobby, then in my opinion they are the ones with shaky faith. It's not my hobby, in fact it is more accurately the center support and cornerstone of my life. You are right that RELIGION itself can be discussed on many levels. However I also believe that my personal Christian faith is based on a RELATIONSHIP with God, with Jesus, and not on the rote repetition of meaningless rituals. I don't put importance on what congregation or denomination I worship with. There are so many practices and variations. What counts to me is that when I worship both by myself and in a public congregation, I feel that God is honored and uplifted, as well as the fact that my soul and spirit feel nourished and strengthened by worship and by good Biblical teaching. Having religion called a hobby does not shake my faith. I only feel the need to point out that to me this is wrong because religion is much much more than a casual hobby.

Please see my response defining what is a hobby. As this seems to really bother you to what category would you assign it?
