I've been hoping to write a novel

Hi there,
Well, I really like to write but getting the enthusiasm to write anything has been a bit of a problem lately. However, its my sisters 30th birthday in a couple of weeks and I decided to write a book and have it self published. The bit for her would be the dedication. I immediately got an idea of what the story would be based on and even wrote out character descriptions. This was a couple of months ago. Everything was ok and then the inspiration faded and I havn't written anything for weeks.
I think the time limit of getting it written, published and sent home has passed so I have bought smaller things for her birthday. I do want to give it to her though and hope to have it done but can anyone give me any inspiration to get back into it. Only having a few hours in the week spare when not at work or uni, is a bit of a problem, on top of my procrastonation levels, its just very hard to keep concentrating on it.
Any ideas would be great.

If you still want to dedicate the book to your Sister, go ahead and do it, don't let the fact that you didn't hit the deadline of her birthday bother you. The key to writing and being productive with it is to do something every day. Even if it is not on the main project. But set aside 30 minutes a day, minimum and write something. A lundry list, a poem a paragragh, a character sketch, something. Eventually, you will get to the point where whenever you sit down your brain will be conditioned to write and you won't be able to stop. Good Luck and just keep going.

Thanks for your comment. I made a new years resolution to write an A4 side of paper each day. I think it lasted a week :(. I do think that its a good idea though, just to get the juices flowing. I might try to get back into it.

Well, I don't think I give off good inspiration. lol I'll try to help though.
When trying to write it helps if you do have a set visual of your characters, scenes, anything dealing with your story. I call myself and artist and draw even though poorly and I have set visuals in my head. That helps a lot.
I also base my characters off of real people sometimes. It's interesting though to see them grow into something more.
When getting the gumption to write I must confess and say I write when I shouldn't. I write in classes. I'm not saying anyone should write when at work or in classes but I just seem to get all my good ideas that way. But if you have free time set up a mood for writing. Anything that inspires you and can ease the words from your mind, to your finger tips, and out of your pen to your paper. Candles, incense, music, art, or whatever so be it!
I dunno how much help I've been. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Yeah, I always seem to get the feeling for writing at the worse moments. I'm a checkout operator so cant write much whilst at work. I have also started writing in classes too when I shouldn't have.
Thanks for your comment. Its nice to know that you can ask people for help, no matter how much that person doesn't think it will help.

we're kind of like in a similar situation. i've always wanted to write a book --- a real book, but i couldn't get the inspiration to finish it. i have all the ideas in my brain. organizing them and sticking out to the plot are my waterloos.

I understand how you feel. I have stared writing a book so many times but then I stop and can never get myself back to finishing it. I could write one about my life since I have health problems. I have been through alot since childhood. I have thought of writng horror books and also writing children's books but I get started and never finish.
