Are any of you so close to your horse that when they die, you feel like your heart has been ripped out and that you have lost one of your best friends? When I lost my horse babe, I was heartbroken. Some probably thought it was a gross overreaction, but I couldn't help it! What do you think ?

Oh my gosh! I know you've probably heard this a million times and it still isn't helping but i am so sorry! I cried when i read this because i cant even imagine losing my baby, Shinto! He's 18 and he's definately up there in age... I can only imagine how bad it would hurt to lose him, and if it hurts me even thinking about it, it must be 198357x worse actually having it happen! I can't even stand to be away from him for longer than a week!
I'm so sorry! It's ok to be sad, only true horse people will understand your reaction so just ignore them! Remeber though, keep on riding and do it for Babe! He would want you to keep going and he's with you in spirit

I don't believe that the grief you feel for losing one of your best friends, your horse Babe, is an over reaction. Animals are a very important part of our lives, dogs, cats, horses. A horse is no different than a dog or cat, just much bigger which is why some people may say, it was just a horse. My own parents are that unfeeling about horses. They don't like them. So give yourself time to grieve for Babe. And it will take time, cry, talk it out with friends or here in mylot, but try to think about the good times that you had. I hope this helps.

We had to put down my old horse, Mac, last Thursday. We had him since the day he was born and he lived to be 28 years old. Believe me! I sure did my share of crying! I truly felt that I had lost a good friend.
