What else rather than give him/her the break, you can't alone fighting to get hi/her back.

I think that I might be shocked and would not believe it. I will send a text message asking him to meet me and tell me personally. It's just a cellphone and anybody can get a hold of it. And things like that, a relationship wherein you invested eight years of effort and love couldn't be ended with just one text message. I believe a relationship of that long deserves more than that.

Oh my gosh, 8 years and a text message?? I'd be livid!! I'd probably find him and give him a piece of my mind.

I will tell the person to speak whatever he wants by coming in front of me. After such a long relationship, I cannot allow some one to get separated from me by making one phone call.
