I'm an amateur phtographer. Most of my images are of the nature and children.
I like take pictures of butterflies and other insects. Someone told me that there is nothing interesting about these winged-insects at all. They all look the same, except that they have different wings! Well, these people are wrong.
I have a prosumer camera ..... good for me .... still a point and shoot camera but with manual tweakings as well. I have to be very resourceful to know where the butterflies are. Usually, butterflies are everywhere on a bright suny day. If the area is dry, chances are, there'll be at least a flutter there. Follow it with your eyes and camera .... switched on and set to the 'sports' program! You can also zoom in if you want!
Of course, I stay in a housing area and am always the curious object! People even stopped their cars to see what I was doing, a few times. Of course they laughed after that!
But, I'm still catching butterflies .... with my camera, of course!

I envy people who are good in photography. It's one of my frustrations in life. I like to take pictures and images of any sort too. Pictures will definitely serve as memories of the past. Whether they are taken nicely or not, it's just ok since they pertain a certain expression. Yes, photography is an art. It is one way of expresing ones feelings and thoughts. Anyone can be a photographer in his or her own way. You just need to have a camera, of course. Good enough, most of the cellular phones now have their own camera. And with that, you can take as many pictures you want anytime and anywhere. In my case, I take pictures using my phone to capture the best moments of my life. So, when I'm depressed or burned out, I'll just look at them and sooner or later, a smile would flash on my face. Just say cheese...

Thanks for the response. Yes, you are right. One doesn't have to be a skillful photographer to take good pictures. It takes time and wearing down our patience to be a good photographer.
Cheese!

I love the butterfly photos on your profile. What beautiful work! I adore butterflies and I can't imagine anything boring about them. You are lucky to have so many pretty butterflies in your area.

Thanks. Actually, if you look hard, butterflies are every where. At my area, actually, the same few types only. I have to travel to find more!

I think that you can find interest in any subject. If I was left anywhere with a camera and an endless memory card and battery, I could be happy.
Prosumer cameras are awesome. I actually used one for a photography job too. It allowed functions of basic SLRs, except that you couldn't change the lens and you couldn't do manual focusing. You could do shutter priority, aperture priority, and it had a hot shoe too. I liked it, but since it stopped working I'm finally looking into getting an SLR.

Yes, you are right. even prosumer camera are nowhere near a DSLR. But, for me, I like some manual adjustments and don't mind if the rest are auto!
Thanks for responding!

Good for you. Don't let people discourage you. I too am an amateur photographer. I shoot just about anything, a blade of grass, a light post, church steeples, mountains and of course my grandkids. Probably my most interesting photo is of a nut and bolt, a really big nut and bolt, probably about 6 or 7 inches across at it widest.
Insects are great subjects, I love to zoom in real close and get every little detail.
Do you have your photos on line somewhere? I would love to see them.
