My grandchildren always come to stay with me during their school break. They love art so we sometimes spend a whole day just making nice cards that they can use for birthdays and other occasions. They also like gardening, so they will help me tidying the garden. I will also let them help me with the cooking and they sometimes make their own little buns. We also sometimes take a bus ride into the city and walk around the shops and then have a meal somewhere nice. In the evenings we would watch a dvd or some cartooons on the tv. There is no end to the amount of things that children love to do.

Well I don't know where you are or how old the kids are, but here are some suggestions:
Parks are always good with younger kids. You could take a picnic lunch, let the kids run wild. Feed ducks if theres a lake. It'll wear the kids out, and they'll sleep well that night!!
Go get an ice cream and go for a walk along the beach. I always find that lots of fun. Again, theres room for the kids to run and play, make as much noise as they like!
I'm also a fan of the zoo and aquariums. Kids learn about animals and different things, whilst having fun. They don't even realise their learning! Again, for the zoo you could take a picnic lunch, and it would be a fun day out!!
If the kids are into arts and crafts, buy a few bottles of paint, paint brushes and paper and let them go wild! They can make pictures for mum and dad, paper to cover school books, paintings for you to hang around your house!!
If their a bit older, I know some beading shops run courses and workshops during the day on school holidays. They can learn a new craft and make something for themselves. Plus you could buy the equipment to keep them busy on other days.
Hope tht helps!!
