I feel that still most motorists have a tendency to cut offbig rigs, and curse us truck drivers and assume that we think we own the road. The truth is we dont own the road nor do we think we do, we are out here trying to make an honest living for ourselves by providing a vital service to the country. We deliver your food, clothing and just about everyhting else in the countries stores, we supply gas stations with gas so you can drive your car.People look down on us as yes in fact we have very large vehiclkes to do our job however we also provide this country with revenue by paying fuel taxes, icc fee's, and more, we also have to go through strict training including homeland secuirty training, we dont just hop in a truck and roll, we are trained professionals with YOUR safety being top priority, I've driven the largecars for 6 years now with no accidents, no tickets and my truck passes all its inspections as does every other truck on the road other wise it would be "red flagged" and removed from service until it was completely fixed and roadable again. We have very strict rules and regulations that we abide by. If you have a question on this, feel free to ask me, I'll be happy to answer you and if this may have sparked a new intrest for you and you want to look into trucking or maybe just look at various truck pictures and configurations visit my freind hank at www.hankstruckpictures.com

Congrats on your truck passing inspections! I trust you do your pre and post trip inspections then!! Good Job!! Evidentally some people haven't seen what a big rig can do to a car, eh? Maybe they dont quite get the concept of a truck picking up speed to go up a hill to get the truck movng faster down the hill. Maybe they dont realize what it takes to stop a big ole 18 wheeler with a full load..... Whatever the reason is that they cut off semis, they aren't too smart, are they?

Yes in fact I did do pre and post trip inspections as well as mid trip for added safety, though its not required by law ( to my knowledge) its something I would do to ensure my equipment was in perfect operating order. I have since left the industry because of new rules and regulations that would prevent me having time with family and have returned to my career in construction, as a finish carpenter. But yes I agree, some people just dont understand that a 80,000 pound vehicle going down hill is a very deadly object if they get in the way and even on flat surfaces can be very devistating, I went 12 years without an accident but I have seen more than I would have liked to, and only a few have had survivors.

I always thought a truck driver went down a hill fast, just so they had enough speed to get up a hill without having to shift gears.

I too have great respect for truck drivers. A good friend of mine is also a driver and I know all he has to go through to 'stay on the road'. I also remember years back when I was young and traveling alot (7 trips cross country). Numerous times I had truckers come to my rescue when others would just drive by. Even had one help get my keys out of the car when I locked them in, another let me draft off him one night when it was raining so bad you could barely see - his truck blocked the rain for me.

I see people cut big rigs off all the time and it ticks me off. I don't know anything about your rigs, but I figured it's a stick shift, so it's a pain in the a** to slow down and then have to shift back once that moron moves over. In TN, there has been a lot of big rig accidents, half has been due to tired drivers, while the other is people in small cars cutting them off. I have had bad experiences with drivers that was tired. I still give you respect, without you guys, we wouldn't have food, clothing, or fuel. I don't think you should only have certain lanes to drive in, when other people can use all four. Don't get mad, but I give more respect to the guys that are ice road truckers, they have some big ones to do that.

I respect what all truck drivers do for a living. I know it must be hard for many of them to be away from their families for a long period of time. Well mainly the long-haul drivers. When on the road some people can be nerds and/or stupid when behind the wheel and many don't understand this factor of semi-truck drivers having blind spots. Stuff I am sure you know all to well. But I am pretty sure no matter how wise drivers become there will still be that one idiot that makes life rough for many truck drivers.

You are right about cars trying to cut the trucks off as my husband is a trucker and a lot of times he was cut off by some ### he has been driving for about 30yrs now and now he is back on the road agin now with our son who wants to be just like his dad it does takes someone special to be a trucker as all the time away from home I remember one time our son had a baseball game and hubby was getting in from a trip and he drive the semi right to the ball field and you have to think about all the types of weather these truckers go in just so they can get the load to where it needs to go and yes we are just trying to make a living just like every body else so dont stop right infront of us we cant stop on a dine ya know
