What songs would you want a band to play at your wedding reception?

I am Hekter - Me jammin at some gig with my Fender Jazz Bass. Hekter is my stripper name. I'm not really a stripper. That is what we call the musical side of me.

Lets please keep this to English Music. =) I am sorry but I can not sing Bengali or Urdu. I might start a band with some guys and I am not sure if we should be playing some of the songs. I think they are lame I've only performed 2 of 17 on stage. That is why I am asking to see if you guys mention any of them. I'm also fishing for ideas. If I had it my way I would have a drummer and maybe a trumpet player and sax. No vocals. Words get in the way. So what would you want to hear at your wedding reception? Songs please. =)

There are some good choices. However I don't have an orchestra to pull off Moonriver. I actually have a joke among musician friends. Any time they ever play something slow I usually reply " WHat is that? Moonriver?". LOL

At my granddaughters wedding they sang "Butterfly Kisses" it had everyone crying,it was beautiful....also another good wedding song by Lonestar is "Amazed" and I also like the song "Wind beneneath My Wings" these are all very beautiful love songs that would be good at a wedding..."butterfly Kisses" fits well because it is about a Dad remembering his daughter when she was a little girl and now she is leaving....."Amazed is a song that a girl or boy might sing to their lover....."Wind beneath My Wings" would be telling the other one how they had inspired them...These are so awesome and very beautiful touching songs for a wedding....You might expect some tears though..........

I guess it depends on what style music you're into but I'll give it a try, although I'm not so good at knowing who performs the songs... 1. Your Song-Elton John 2. Angel Eyes- "Don't anybody wake me if it's just a dream cuz honey you're the best thing that's ever happened to me. All you fellows, you can look all you like but this girl you see is leavin' here with me tonight...what did I do, what did I say to turn your angel eyes my way..." (words don't always get in the way;) ) 3.A Moment Like This- the one from American Idol 4. Everything I Do (I do it for you)-Bryan Adams 5.Don't Wanna Miss a Thing-I prefer the Aerosmith version ok now I just have a bunch of random lyrics running through my head. I'll take a nap and once I can put a coherent though together I'll add more if I think of some.

Jeff Healey sings angel eyes. Such a great song. I have never seen the show American Idol, Lost, Survivor, I don't know the others because I haven't seen them. LOL. Thank you for your response. As far as styles of music, I play whatever. I'll even rewrite it if I don't want to play it. I did it to "Free Bird" because some joker always wants to hear it. It isn't very fun nor challenging so I made it at least fun for us.

Weddings... i giggle on this topic all the time. I love picturing my own wedding. For music i would love different love songs on strings during the first half of the reception then after the first half i like to have a band thats when the party starts. In weddings just make sure the lyrics of the LOVE SONGS has a happy ending. And that the song is lively, not too loud but not to slow... up beat... :)

Sure, you can't sing in Bengali, but can you sing "Bengali In Platforms" by Morrissey? LOL Sorry, I just had to ask. Seriously, though... I'm pretty sure most bands have never heard of most, if not all of the songs I'd like played at my wedding. Most of them are pretty unknown. I'd have to hire a DJ who would play CD's that I made and it'd be a strict playlist. LOL I don't want any stupid songs I hate played at my wedding!

LOL good thing you already specified that this thread is only for English songs :) I think most Barry Manilow songs are popular during wedding receptions. You can probably also sing jolly or party songs like "Celebration" or something.

Okay I have planned my wedding *blushes* and I am not even dating anyone or ever was close *L* ;) Few years ago, I was obessed with weddings, and wanted to plan mine. I did. I like the stuff btw and still want to keep most of the info. heehee Okay my top 2 wedding songs: KC & JoJo "All My Life" Chicago "Inspiration" I really like them both and never decided which was the top top. I think I would like them both played when we dance for the first time :)) Okay I'm silly. I planned a wedding none existed. Oh well. Its done, its over with. And in part less to do when I finally do wed ;)

Here are my favorites at the moment. These are mostly from Shayne Ward and Leigh Nash. 1. No Promises 2. Stand by me 3. You're not alone 4. Something worth living for 5. Ocean Size love 6. My Idea of Heaven. I hope you'll check on them because they are really romantic songs. The first 4 are by Shayne Ward and the other 2 are by Leigh Nash.

No sappy ole 70s and 80s crap. I'd like things that aren't sad. No sugary romantic junk, either. I's prefer some fun stuff-- swing, jazz. I wouldn't want them to play many songs with words, because I have noticed most cover band vocalists really just can't sing. So why ruin a good song? Definitely, I would like some upbeat music-- it wouldn't have to be stuff you could dance to because I'm not a huge fan of dancing. I think it would be nice to have a band that utilizes instruments other than just drums, guitar and bass. I have a soft spot for woodwinds (not so much flutes) and high brass.
