Don't reply unless you agree!?

That is what most discussions should say. I, personally, like to hear other opinions, especially ones that are different from my own. But most people on myLot, it seems, only like to hear responses that agree with their way of thinking. How boring a world they must live in.
I'm not whinning, but my star level went from a 95 down to a 90. The only reason I care is that I try to give the best responses I can, but a lot of times I don't agree with the starter of the discussion, and my writing gets penalized for that! Oh well, I guess.
Which side of this fence are you on? Do you like other opinions, or just want to hear people that agree with you? Why or why not? What's on your mind?

I understand where you're coming from. I respect any other people's opinions and I don't expect people to agree with what I post. I could care less whatever people say what I post. Isn't surveys usually like that? More power to you bro!

When I said "I could care less whatever people say what I post" that means if it differs from their opinions and don't agree with my topic.

There are many people who like the mirrior i guess,
they dont want responses they require their ego to be fullfilled, and i guess you and me are not like them we speak what we feel and thats making us the enemy at the gates.
Dont feel sorry for others behaviour, just do what you do best , speak the TRUTH thats in your heart.

I'm never gonna be silenced by anybody, it's just annoying that other people want 'yes men' for friends.

I want everyone to reply to my discussions. Sometimes I will debate with them and see if I can get a good debate going, but I never give a negative rating for an argument that's against mine. I like seeing different viewpoints even if it's only to see what the other side is thinking.

I love to debate on good topics. I'm happy if I can get different opinions talking about a topic.

i do not agree at all with you on that one!!
(atleast we did start an interesting discussion between us right now..i don't agree you do..lol)
usually my best discussions are discusions that reminds you of a battle field..this is why we are here..to state our true opinion..and not to agree with everything just in order that others will love us.
and why do you care about your star rating..i know i do not really care about it..what i care about is a good discussion!
if someone will rate me "-" or will not rate me at all because i disagree with him..i am sorry but he is a little bit childish and i am sure will not change my mind according to his rating..

As I've said, I think it's just the satisfaction that people like what I have written, that attracts me to the ratings.
Plus, knowing that people thought my responses were helpful feels good to.

It is not necessary an answers should be in line with starter of the discussion. Your opinion on a particular subject may be different because you view the subject from different angle and voice your opinion. You have every right to do that. If that is not the case in an discussion it is pointless to answer a discussion. One of the primary and basic of discussion to get a view and opinon from lot of people and what they think about a subject. Nobody should get hurt if an answer to a discussion is not in line with discussion starters' view.

And that sounds fine in theory, but in reality, people penalize you here if you don't agree with them.

The only time I go to a discussion I have to be interested in it. I don't mind people commenting on My discussion, as long as they are not nasty. You do half to watch what you say on you discussion and everybody elses discussion. that is how Mylot works they won't tell you they are sneaky!

I do watch what I say and am not rude or anything. My opinons just differ than a lot of people's on here sometimes. They just seem to not like that.

I don't usually like to reply to discussions that get me really upset as there are some others always that are better to reply to. I do sometimes have my say and opinion and not always the same as the writer but I try and put it in a way that doesn't offend and shows it is just my opinion. Oh and I always finish with...have a nice day hahahaha...

Maybe that's my problem. I'm not ending it with a cute saying...

From my point of view, i usually answer post that is from my views about the issue or the topic. I know that i am not always agree but the way i am responding to topics, i am carefully choosing my words not to offend anybody and so far i am doing good with my rating or my reputation. Of course this is a forum and we certainly can't get everybody to just agree with us.

I don't offend people either. Well, I try not to and hopefully I'm doing a good job at it. I save my offensive opinions for my blog.

I have moods. There are times when I would like to express my views on things and there are times when I just want to stay at topics that are safe (or agreeable). Whenever I'm in the mood for discussion (or expression of views) that would contradict that of the discussant's (or the poster's), I would always state, "in my opinion" because some members are already doing word fights or are showing signs that they're about to do that. I think everyone should respect each other's opinion, that's why we are diverse here at myLot. Besides, there are days when there are not much good discussions to respond to, so I would respond to some 'controversial ones' and express my views. It really would just take understanding others and not trying to throw the slack on other people simply because of a discussant having a bad day. Happy myLotting!

I get that, but what if their opinion is just different than yours. They aren't being rude or anything though.

Definitely not. I have never come across any discussions that ask us not to reply unless we agree. I think you might have misread it.
I think the general consensus is that you should not reply if you have nothing to say. As long as you have more to add than a simple yes, no or maybe, then you can feel free to put down your piece.
So of course you can disagree! Life would be so boring otherwise. Why post a discussion if you are just expecting one view?
And don't be sad about your rating. I am sure it will return to 10 soon enough if you continue to do more quality posting. Here, I will rate you a "+" for this discussion. ;-)

NO, what I said is that is what a lot of these duscussions SHOULD say, not that that is what it did say. People mark you down when you don't agree. That's all I was saying.

LOL
If I only wanted people to agree with me I wouldn't bother posting at all.
I love seeing the various replies people can give, and sometimes (not necessarily on MyLot but in life) seeing or hearing another point of view can help you see a clearer picture or solution to the issues in your life.
Personally I often find myself blinded by my own emotions to see any other side- that is when and why I call on my friends or Mylotters to see if there is in fact another side to the story.
I am a member of another forum that there are some people who I will simply not chat with because they don't like it unless you agree with them, and can get rather nasty if criticism (even constructive) is given

Personally I like debate. Debate breeds discussion. However, I agree with you on this one as well. People do only want to hear what they agree with. When they don't like what they see as a comment I've noticed negative responses. As far as ratings, I am not sure what my rating is as I'm not sure hot to check that and I don't have a star like you.

You get a star when you hit 100 posts. I'm not really worried about it, but the writer craving recognition in me really is.

Thats right dont talk unless you agree, I am right damn it!!! Just kidding getting late and I should go to bed soon my corny jokes are seeping out. I think I care not what rating I get its more important to say what needs to be said than worrying about bursting someones bubble. The popular opinion has seldom been the morally right or good opinion throughout history. Hey I was curious as to what those stars meant and now I finally know. Thanks for the inadvertent info :)

I'm afraid i'm not quite agree with your point. The purpose that people start discussions is to exchange ideas with other people, if they presume that those people who respond to their discussion all hold the same ideas with them, that's quite meaningless to start the topic. certainly, there are some people who do like other people to agree with them on their topics, but most people do not like this. I'm this kind. i want to exchange ideas with people, not to agree with them on every point.

I have only seen a handful of people that actually want to hear other's opinions. Most discussions that I've responded to that actually are serious enough to have strong opinions, people get mad when you don't agree. Keep in mind, I have only been here for a week though.
