When I was little I used to have a lot of compulsory thoughts, like for example that when I walked to school I had to step on certain stones on the way to school or it would be a bad day, and depending on what color cars I walked by it would mean things too. Now I just have to go through my apartment a couple of times to check that everything is turned off. Do you have any habits that you really have to do??

I don't have as many now as I used to, but I used to have this thing where everything I did had to be done in even numbers like how many slices of pizza or pieces of candy, or Oreos I ate. I also used to have to have the microwave set on the actual time, not the time left to cook.

It's good that most of these habits just disappear with age. I don't do any of the counting stuff any more, just bite my nails if that counts.

I continually bite my nails, it's something I did as a child and even through adulthood haven't been able to quit, I do it because of nerves or when I'm waiting around, sometimes I don't even realize I am doing it, I've tried so many times to stop but it has never worked. I am also guilty of having to check I have everything before leaving the house, like my door keys, mobile and train pass, if I check it twice, I'll check three times, even when I get in the car I check again to make sure I have everything!

I didn't even think about that, I do that too. They are ALWAYS supershort, and I will never get used to it. Sometimes when I have money I build the nales and I'm happy for a month, but as soon as they fall off I'm back to square one. So I can't quit that either, it totally sucks.

I admit I am also one of these people who check, and then double check, that everything is turned off before I leave the house. At one point it worried me enough to ask my Doctor if I might have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), but he said no - it was just because I had my house broken into twice, and that made me more than normally cautious.

It makes sense to be careful on that case. You should thank yourself for making sure that everything is turned off. I would be devastated to come home and someone broke in, or even worse, that it would be burnt down. So that's just a good habit, if its OCD it's a useful variation :D

I am now 27 year old and when ever i am talking to some one on phone i just walk in a regular fashion on the floor like i step on every second tile on the floor. And when i am tensed i do count numbers on my fingures until i am off that stress.

Yes, growing up I experienced some strange compulsive behavior. I would have to count things over and over and I would have a strange fear of certain numbers. You could be suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder, it is a disease that many people have. I am currently on medication for my disorder and it has really helped me. I would suggest that you don't just ignore this behavior because it could just get worse. I would talk to a thearapist about it and see what they can do to help you.

It's not bad anymore, it used to be when I was little. Now I guess it's good thing to make sure that everything is turned off when you leave the house. I'm glad that there is medicine of it would become too hard to handle.
