Is it true that Canadians say "sorry" often?

I'm Canadian and I think that I personally do say sorry a lot to people that I might bump into but is it just me? I saw the movie "Canadian Bacon" last night and it was hilarious but also quite stereotypical I think, which is why it was so funny. But the funniest scene were when these guys in riot gear were running through a crowd, set in Toronto, and everyone was saying "sorry, sorry, oh I'm sorry, sorry about that etc" even the riot police.

I think it's good too. I'v been to some places in Europe that I don't want to mention, but I thought everyone was being rude because they were yelling at each other, so it seemed to me, but then my friend (who was a local) said it's just the way they talk. They get "passionate".
