I have been in Mylot for just over a week now, and I am truly amazed at what I am seeing. I browse discussion boards and look for something that catches my interest and possibly might be bordering on showing and/or requiring some intelligence. I frequently run into topics that are beyond silly. For example, what would you do if a monkey jumped into the bath tub with you? Mind you not an actual topic but an illustration of the absurdity of some topics. Are we so interested in making the pennies that we have to be silly? Thats not to say I haven't found some really excellent discussions, but they are few and far between. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places?

Well, you are right on both counts. There are a great number of trashy and brainless posts on mylot, but you might also be looking for the good stuff in the wrong places. One way to look for it in the right place is to update your preferences regularly, ie topics that interest you, like movies, games, hobbies, things you do.. so on and so forth, so, the next time you hit the tab saying topics from my interests, you will see more topics that are closer to topics that you like, rather than things like what you would do if a monkey jumped into your bathtub! That was funny, but I wouldn't be entirely surprised if I saw that as an actual topic one of these days. Actually, mylot is getting better gradually as a lot of people who post such trash are learning that posting trash doesn't really pay and so they are leaving to other places, leaving the more serious and quality posters in peace. Expect to see a lot more of good posts in the days to come.

Oh man I sure hope so...maybe they should start a site for the brainless posters. They could call it something like no brains allowed.

I have the same concerns about mylot as you. However, let's admit that most of the people on this site are NOT looking for intelligent conversation. I bet if I asked "what is you favorite color" I'd get hundreds of responses. I find that more people respond to queries like "do you print or write in cursive?" I got 60 d*mn responses from that, because it requires no thought. It's a quick answer. Some people just aren't wired for in depth thinking. And others, if they are capable of it, are to lazy to employ their intelligence. I don't think you're looking in the wrong places. i think the good ones are just rare.

I think that I would have to answer that print or cursive with much thought. Then again, I tend to over think things, and I rarely am black or white about matters... Usually pretty grey!

It is true. It is hard to find intelligent conversations at times. Sometimes I can be on here for hours looking and only respond to maybe 3 or 4 dicussions. Other times I get on a roll and am constantly typing away. I think it goes in waves. At least that is what I seem to have found. Or maybe I'm the one going in waves. Perhaps I sometimes find the silly questions answerable. LOL! Like when I'm really tired.

As long as there's money involved there will be plenty of silly discussions and plenty of people willing to answer them, I did answer many of these in the beginning looking for a few cents more to meet payouts, things in the middle are ok and I respond to them all of the time, especially in discussions my friends started, I feel an obligation to support my friends even if i don't like the discussion much, we all want to make some money here even when we know it will never be big enough for anything good, it's just a nice motivation to keep going..

For any discussion whether it be my friends or any other if I can't provide an intelligent response then I won't respond. I just don't believe in cheating myself or my friends. If I can't give my best than it is not right to try.

Yes I would have to agree with you. I have stopped looking at the discusiions with no responses because it seems like that is where I find most of those silly ones. Now I favor new discussions.

lol-- yes, there probably is a reason that these discussions have no responses.

I have to say that even in real life, people often bring up these silly topics without having the incentive of a penny. I'd be rich off all the stupid things my friends and I have talked about over the course of our lives. Unfortunately, on here I usually like to put a little more thought into things, which is why I only have $1.08 to my mylot name.

Sometimes it I respond to intellectually stimulating discussions. Other times I don't mind the absurd funny discussions as a nice break. Remember, no one forces you to respond to discussions and you can start your own discussions if you can not find any decent discussions.

I agree the stupid topics on here are a dime a dozen but trying to find interesting ones to relate to is a hard job on its own. I guess it is the call of the pennies that brings out the stupid in some people. Hopefully myloy will soon go through the system again and wipe out those retarded topics that are taking up so much space and our time routing through them.

I tend to look to my friends for the discussions of substance. The majority of the time I can find enough to interest me there to fill the hour or two that I have available for posting. I like the discussions that encourage thought or research. I spent upwards of 30 minutes looking for a recipe for a stranger because it sounded good. I like to feel that I am making a difference and helping someone make an important decision or just being a sounding board. I have also veered away from answering discussions that I don't know anything about. If I can't make a meaningful contribution, why bother?
So look to your friends for quality discussions. Get more quality friends.
PS. Love the cat! :)

For some reason all of us seem to pass through this "no good discussions" phase..hehe When I joined, I too had started a topic titled "weird discussion topics" ..lol Well it happens and you aren't the only one. There are many users here who start discussions just for the money hence no substance. We have more than 80,000 members here on mylot, so there ought to be some good topics somewhere, looking for them in the right place is the key ;o) Do read this where I have outlined where you can find good discussions, hope it helps:)

Preception?
That is what we are speaking of here, correct?
How we preceive the discussion and our ability (or so called god-given right) to judge)?
This discussion board is like this universe. There is enough room for it all:)

279? You certainly have chatted a lot for one week. Not trying to be negative. I only have about 50 for one week. Why don't you bring the topics forth and let everyone else follow? "Act, or be acted upon."

Thanks for the help I have started discussions and they get about as many responses as yours have gotten, all except for this one since it seems to be a popular topic.

What type of discussion do you seek? If you are not finding the quality that deserves your response then you should start your own discussion.
However the more general your topic the more responses you will get. Personally quality wins over quantity any day. Especially if you are doing this for money.
It is easy to make more than $1 every day if you only reply with a response that means something. The people who make no effort are not making any money on MyLot.

The money is not that important to me, I like to be challenged to think before speaking or typing ...lol...I am learning how to get to where I want, so things are getting better.

I've only been a part of MyLot for a few hours and despite having searched for topics within that time, this is my first post. When I joined I thought it would be easy to find topics to reply to that spark my interest or that I at least have an opinion on, but that hasn't been the case at all. I'm not entirely sure if that is my fault, and I have less to say than I thought, or if it's the lack of interesting posts.

There is so much to sift through when you first start, I would suggest you go to discussions about your interests and check out those topics first. When you get a friends list built up you can ask your friends or repond to their discussions.

My best advice to you is to develop a friends list. If you are searching through discussions and find one that interests you look at the persons profile. If they seem to have something in common with you add them to your friends list. By doing this you build a friends list of only people that
post stuff your interested in. Then when you come in here go
to the link on the left that says discussions my friends have started and you will get quality discussions listed and not the crazy stuff. You will find that your time on here is used much better by doing this.

Actually I enjoy myLot because I can find such a variety of topics from idiotic to pretty intelligent. I think if one it really looking for deep intellectual discussions this not the place to surf. However I may be wrong because you could add a topic to your interests that you find mentally challenging that way you can meet people and find topics that appeal to you.

I have found excellent discussion material that does qalify as deep intellectual, and I have found others so light that they are in danger of floating away. People have apparently assumed that I am not into light discussion either, which I like just as well. It is the absurd things that people post more or less just for the sake of making money that I refer to, since I have posted this discussion people have given me enough information in their replies so that I can weed out the absurd stuff and for this I am thankful. As the saying goes you have to ask the right qustions to get the right answers...:}

You are right. Some of the discussions are not very well thought out. But if you search you'll find some topics that will peak your interest.

I have a seen a great number of silly discussions.. But I must say an even greater number of great discussions.. You have to look in your interests. Get friends who share the same interests as you- Answer their posts-- look to see what they are answering- There is a member here- Old Buddy- He is full of good discussions and suggestions for finding quality posts. I have to admit some days it is harder than others finding things that interest me here-- But other days I find alot!

I am also a newbie. But, I am using it for relaxation. And, from time to time, I will feel like having a serious moment. So it depends. I work a lot of hours and I am not an email or blog person. So, this is an escape. I hope that you find some enjoyment in this process.

Hi Sumofalltears, I had the same feelings that your are going through. I also realized there are some good topics for discussion and some offer good information’s. I gather, in all activities, we must decide what we want. If you are looking for good contents, then you select what is suitable for you and respond effectively. The rest being garbage just ignore it.
This will definitely make your efforts worth the while and your earning will surely increase.
To you success
