No matter how mature or successful we are in our adult lives, with one word our mothers can somehow send us scurrying back to childhood. Can mothers and adult children ever learn to set aside their earlier relationship and talk each other as adults? Of course, our relationship with our mother is about today. But it is a relationship that's different from any other in our life. She was the very first person we formed a relationship with, and that relationship continued all the way through our childhood to the emotional roller coaster of adolescence and beyond.
